While the “big boys” were playing the Pirates in Bright House, Groups 1 and 2 were on the road to Bradenton and Groups 3 and 4 played at the Complex. I chose to watch Group 4 on Mike Schmidt Field. Kevin Frandsen bounced back and forth between fields taking at bats where ever possible. Although this was Group 4, there were participants from Groups 3 and 5 also.
I got a look at the line up card with coach’s notes before the game started.

A couple days ago, I reported that Corey Bass may have broken the ring finger on his throwing hand when he was struck by a foul ball. Today I saw him with a cast covering his right hand and foreman.
Tomorrow, Pirates again, Groups 1 and 2 at the Complex, BUT 90 % chance of rain.
Wow! Good stuff. Thanks a lot!

Great job.
Good summation.
Cozens and Crawford early on appear to have their bats.

Crawford’s first hit split the infielders and sort of died after it reached the outfield grass, but his second hit was a classic line drive.

Cozens is going to be in our top 5 by the middle of the season. Big things coming.

The most interesting thing to me is that Cozens is getting a shot at CF. Boy, would that increase his value. Pullin and Cozens seem to be getting hits every day, a very good sign. That Lakewood team will be fun to watch. Another guy I like that always seems to hit is Herlis Rodriquez. He should be at WSport this year, LWood will be too crowded.
Btw, you meant to say thrown out by Grullon, not Oberto.
Regrets to Kim, a constant contributor on here, and Jon Knight’s mom, on Jon getting released. Sorry Kim, good luck to Jon catching on somewhere else.

Pullin’s probably my breakout pick.

Shame about Jon Knight. Hard to figure sometimes. One of the PP writers…gkit or jimpeyton.. had mentioned a week or so ago that Knight looked to come into camp in great shape appeared to be one of the better players in his group..

I don’t know that we should read too much into this. I haven’t seen Venn Biter or Gustavo Martinez suited up yet. Knight was about to be released. Rodriguez and Greene were probably the only outfielders available from Group 4. They pulled Cozens down from Group 3 and brought Sandberg up from Group 5. It’s nice that they think enough of him to stick him in CF, but it was probably more out of necessity than anything else.

Yea I would not read too much into it either. They pulled Z Green from Group 3 and had him with Group 2 yesterday. Perhaps just filling needs on a day to day basis.

I am so impressed with Crawford. If he develops any real power, you are talking about a true star. As it is, he projects to be a well above average player. The combination, of poise, a plus fielding tool, a plus hit tool and plus baseball instincts is really awesome.

Crawford reminds me in some ways of MCW on the Sixers.. similar floor/upside in their respective sports
