Box Score Recap – 4/19/2013

Nick Hernandez with another strong start, while Franco Perkins and Altherr continue their strong starts. Meanwhile, LGj with another 2 K but 2 more walks. Building up to something big…I predict he hits 9 HR today.

Here’s the affiliate Scoreboard from MiLB. LV and REA rained out and will play 2 Saturday.

  1. Who is Joe Mojica? I know the Yankees traded him to us, but I am assuming his hot start is just sss or luck.

  2. It may be time to put the profile of Carlos Alonso on the list. He is playing himself into a prospect, especially a utility player. He has hit consistently through the system and has played almost every position.

    1. He’s 25 years old and this is his second year in Clearwater. If he were doing this in Reading then we may have a future utility guy, but I don’t think it’s anything to get excited about.

    2. Alonso has hit at each level, but he didn’t exactly kill the ball last year as a 24 year old in High A. Those were good numbers for a 21 year old, but not great for a 24 year old.

    1. It has been playing like Citizen’s Bank Park lately and is actually a slight hitters park. Most of the damage has been singles though so it is a little small sample size

      1. They are 3rd in the league in XBH’s (1 behind the second place team), 3rd in slugging, 3rd in OPS. Leading the league in doubles. They are middle of the pack in HR’s, but Ft. Myers is the only team clearly ahead of them thus far. SSS and all but they’ve started off well. The caveat that they are a singles hitting team is a little unfair.

  3. Altherr with 3 BBs, up to 12.3 BB% and a bump in ISO. Certainly putting himself in the conversation, could see him and Franco in Reading this year.

  4. Stop the presses … Larry Greene actually had an at-bat (actually 2) where he put a ball in play … Only took him 3 games to accomplish this rare fear!

  5. In the top of the seventh Giles came in and pitched to two hitters. They brought Shreve in to finish the inning. Is there a problem again with Giles in his first time pitching for Clearwater?
