What is the story on Drew Carpenter? His numbers look good and seems like he has more K’s and is allowing fewer hits as a reliever. Has anyone seen him at AAA this year and how has he looked in comparison to the Stutes / sChwimers / Grillis of the world? Is he positioning himself as a possible middle reliever in the bigs or just a solid AAAA guy?
Just saw this in Brookover’s weekly minor league recap on Phily.com
Righthander Julio Rodriguez has impressive numbers – 5-2 with a 2.44 ERA – but the NL scout said he was skeptical about his chances of pitching in the big leagues. “I can’t say he’s a prospect right now. He throws 87-88 and it looks pretty straight.”
Has anyone seen JRod pitch in person? I read on the site that he hitting the low 90s … if the above is true, then it looks like his prospect status certainly does take a hit
We’ve been hearing that he’s sometimes 87-88 and sometimes in the low 90s. Hopefully thats the case and he somehow finds a way to stay in the 90s and get some movement on the pitch. The scouting reports on him this year aren’t encouraging.
Run to the wall Raul. Run to the wall. Oh sorry I was watching the reruns of the game.
Lets just get Brown in there the alternative is too awful.
Buck is back on track.
If I told you Hewitt and Santana would be tied in HRs aat this point, you would of taken away my keyboard.
What Santana is doing at his age is bordering on impressive. Hewitt and Collier are bordering on mediocrity.
On a different note, the way Rizzotti and Overbeck are playing, I’m struggling to understand why at their ages and with the success they’ve had in AA we are not promoting both of them to AAA to replace pure org filler and challenge their development by moving up a level.
There was a good article today in the Inquirer talking about Rizzotti and Overbeck, comparing the two. Most of the scouts were saying that Rizz has nothing more to prove in AA, though they also said he’s a AL player for sure cause of the DH factor.
Scouts also said Overbeck has a little more upside since he can (somewhat) play 3B and 1B.
I’m wondering if they just 86’d the OF experiment with him or not, or maybe wait till the offseason and have him work there in fall ball.
Its a shame to see Pete Orr go down instead of Michael Martinez. Pete Orr actually did pretty good. I could understand keeping Martinez if he was young, maybe 23 or 24, but he is 28. Why keep him on the team all year. I am going to be really mad if he stays on the team when Victorino comes back.
Let’s see. Your CF is on the DL. Martinez is a backup CF. Utley is a LH 2B coming off the DL and Orr is a LH backup 2B. Makes just a little bit more sense for Orr to go.
Not really when Mayberry, Francisco, and Brown can all play centerfield better than Martinez. Pete Orr has played a little bit of the outfield too and Wilson Valdez probably can play there too.
Martinez is a Rule 5 so we’d have to offer him back to Washington, but since he can’t hit, run or throw – they have no interest in him whatsoever. This has to go down as one of Amaro’s stranger personnel moves. This guy has zero value to the Phillies. Just a little bit strange.
Jarred Cosart had a great game, good to see him go 8 innings, although only 3 Ks.
