Check it here. Sounds like he got into a bar fight. Hopefully the people within the organization get him some help in terms of anger management. They could also give him Cole Hamels’ phone number, he might be able to lend some insight. This is probably nothing to get too concerned about, hes a kid, and kids make mistakes. But its worth mentioning nonetheless.

I’m sure most of us were 19 once just imagine we’re 19 again with a few hundred K in the bank. Not that all of us are predisposed to get into a bar fight but I’m not going to be alarmed over a single incident.
Let’s hope it remains just that an isolated incident.

i only care if he used his pitching hand to throw a punch. if so, he is an idiot. if not, then he is a reckless teenager and this embarrassment will help him.

They’re not called the fightin’ Phils for nothing.
This is probably just a temporary blip on the radar screen. If he’s a smart kid he’ll realize that’s the microscope is now focused on him and he has to watch what he does.

I’d hate to even mention anger management without knowing the circumstances. He could have been targeted based upon his new wealth or he could have been defending a female friend. There’s a lot of haters out there trying to bring people down. He shouldn’t go down to their level but that’s something that he’ll learn with age. I’m still really high on him having a breakout year.

It’s awkward to say this, but I don’t mind professional athletes having a bit of aggression and fearlessness in them. Obviously one does not want it to manifest itself this way, but it can help between the lines.

And which part of that targeting caused him to resist arrest? I’m not going to come down on Colvin for one incident, but he’s hardly going to be the victim here.

Did he use his pitching hand?
Honestly, that’s all I care about.

Two of our highest touted pitching prospects of the last decade also had some youthful maturity issues early on. Hopefully Brody’s baseball career and maturation follow the same course.

The funny thing is that when I heard Colvin had a good right hook during last year’s draft, I assumed it was his curveball.
Guess not.

True – but we all know ‘resisting arrest’ is at the discretion of the police officer.

Hopefully the Phillies will be turning Dickie Noles loose on him too. He’s one of the best in the business at dealing with athletes when they run into a rough patch, probably because he lived through a lot of rough patches (and, if I recall correctly, submarined his own career because of it)

As a 20 year old college stundent at a school known for its parties (rutgers), I have to say that boys will be boys, and idiodic jerks will be idiodic jerks. Even though I don’t know the full circumstances, he shouldn’t have been where he was, when he was. I hope he doesn’t do this again, because I want to see him pitch for the phillies on the future

If history repeats itself, he’ll be walking around with a little dog in his bag and posing in ridiculous magazine spreads with his wife in about five years.

who knew rutgers was known for its parties?

Sounds like something that happens a lot with the 18-22 year-old crowd…usually the cops aren’t in the right place at the right time, but it sounds like he may have gotten unlucky.
Seriously, these are just growing pains. Do you really expect to give a kid $900k and expect him to sit at home playing Warcraft all off-season?

Awesome. Soon he’ll be missing large chunks of the season with injuries while still flying through the system and in a few years time he’ll be a World Series MVP.
At least that’s how I’m going to look at it.

Resisting arrest is a bad sign. Something has to click in time to avoid these situations. If Brody Colvin wants to be an every day chump then he can continue on his current path. If he wants to pitch for the Phillies he needs to change his ways.

xfactor: being charged with resisting arrest and actually resisting can be 2 different things. As previously stated, its at the discretion of the officer. I was recently thrown against a wall by the police, searched against my will and detained. They claimed that my use of a cell phone while walking was behaviour indicative of of a drug transaction. I was dumbfounded. There’s so many “cowboy” cops out there, I wouldn’t know what to believe anymore. Who knows, maybe the cop was a disgruntled LSU baseball fan, or maybe Brody actually resisted. But being charged with resisting doesn’t necessarily mean a thing.

American Justice isn’t what it should be. Once the police get an idea in their head they sometimes go overboard and determined to “win”. Players need to be even more careful than others. To some they have a target on their backs.
On the other hand lets hope this IS just youth or heaven forbid not “demon rum”. Dickie Noles could help. He went through his own alcohol hell.

Don’t dismiss this but don’t make a huge deal out of it either. The true circumstances of the incident will probably never be known. But a 19 year old shouldn’t be in a bar fight. If I was his father, I’d be having a long talk with the kid.
I sound like a preacher but these kids have a short window to make a lifetime’s worth of income. Don’t throw that opportunity away. You can get in bar fights when your 40, balding and packing on the pounds, sucking down Ballentine Ales (Do they even make this anymore?) and watching Baseball from a bar stoll.

Young and talented gets a pass? Sounds like a dumb kid to me. I guess we will see if this incident becomes his ‘maturation’ mistake or is a sign of his lack of commitment to his profession.

I, for one, am STUNNED that a 19 year old with a ton of money drank. I never ever drank till I was 21, like any good God fearing American. This kid is clearly the spawn of satan with his evil ways.

NEPP your funny. Heaven forbid he have some fun… If he turns out close to how Cole turned out after his run-ins… we will all forget this just like we did with Cole…
Brody, let this be a lesson kid… you don’t want that first $900,000 to be your last!

We pay to much attention to what these guys do. As long as he shows up ready to pitch, who cares.

Just so yall know a bit. He basically broke up a fight. And the cop saw him on pulling a guy off. Tried to explain the situation. Cop got aggervated with his tone cuffed him and booked him. I’m almost certian everything gets dropped.

Brody colvin was one the bigger party animals in high school. This would still be ok if he were at LSU, but this is not the case. He has to realize that he signed a contract giving up his college years and now its all business or he blows it. I will admit he is the hardest worker I have ever seen. He deserved every dollar of what he got cause of the work he put in to it. If he gets his head straight there is no doubt in my mind we will see him in the big leagues one day, but that is onl for time to tell.

Basically sounds like a “no big deal” kind of thing then. The hard work part is a better indicator of who he is than a minor youthful indiscretion of drinking underage.

I don’t think he was even close to being a big party animal. But the facts are these. He was there. He never threw a punch. He wasn’t drunk. He was thrown in the middle of a maylay and a cop jumped on his back and started hitting him when he tried to get up. He thought another kid was on top of him and that was the resisting. Everyything has been dropped and all this talk is just stupid. I was there and I have known him a long time. He has never been in a fight in his life. He is the calmest guy I know.

So friend of Brody Colvin defends Colvin’s getting into a bar fight by challenging everyone to a fight. Classic.

Well, I personally just love the ludicrously terrible grammar and awful spelling. The first half of the first sentence make absolutely no sense. I’m trying to decipher it, but I’m failing miserably. The “spawn of satin” part is pretty awesome though. I wasn’t aware that fabric “spawned”.
Seriously…I try not to be bigoted against southerners(Ironic, I know) but stuff like this sure isn’t helping.

JoeDE,
Wouldn’t the spawn of Satin be something like Nylon or Polyester?
