Let your mind race as to why he was pulled. He allowed a hit and a walk while striking out 4. Is he injured? Is a trade pending? If someone is in Clearwater, a check-in would be helpful.
Update –> I got word via email he left with a groin strain.

Some news from Lehigh Valley as the second half of the IronPigs season begins this evening with a double header against Syracuse. Starting Pitcher Tim Redding was released after several fairly brutal starts. With Scott Mathieson’s return from Philadelphia, the Lehigh Valley rotation is full, with Mathieson taking Redding’s spot.
Reliever Phillipe Aumont was placed on the DL, retroactive to July 10 with an undisclosed shoulder issue. Aumont recently saw a shoulder specialist and sources within the organization say that the injury is relatively minor in nature. Joe Savery officially arrives from Reading today to takes Aumont’s roster spot. Continue reading Aumont to the DL, Redding Released
The Futures Game is a lot of fun. You’re seeing 50 prospects, and though not all of them are future all stars, most of them will make it to the majors. This game isn’t the best data point to try and evaluate someone’s future career, but its fun nonetheless. Some quick thoughts.
Sebastian Valle: Came in to pinch hit and had himself a heck of an AB, laying off a tough 1-2 pitch before lining a double down the left field line and taking 3rd on the wild overthrow from Bryce Harper. In his 2nd AB he faced Jacob Turner, one of the best RHP in the minors. He showed a quick bat, roping a hard fastball just foul and working a deep count before flying out to right centerfield. Defensively, Valle looked just fine, presenting a quiet target, framing high velocity fastballs perfectly, and blocking everything in the dirt. 3 years ago, we were wondering if Valle would have the capability to stick behind the plate defensively, and now his defense appears to be almost completely caught up to his offensive potential. Very positive developments.
Jarred Cosart: Cosart started the 8th inning and blitzed the three hitters he faced. As I noted in the liveblog, the TV gun was 2mph fast, so his 99s were 97s, but that will certainly play. He flashed a big hammer curveball to record a strikeout, and then finished off the last hitter he faced with an 83 mph changeup with solid late fade. He still has a somewhat complex delivery with moving parts, but it did not appear to hamper his command at all. With the USA holding on, Cosart is the winning pitcher.
Pretty solid night for the Phillies farm system.
Here is your spot to either cheer for this decision or complain about it. Choice/time is yours!
Per the man himself. And now its a race between Justin and Schwim to see who reaches the majors first.
Congrats Justin.
We’ve read a few reports in the last few weeks indicating that Tyson Gillies was making some progress, but we never really heard what the problem was exactly, as he had gone to Nebraska this spring to see a specialist. Tonight on twitter, he gave an answer
my right hip and left groin weren’t firing properly and my left hammy took all the stress, and that’s why it didn’t heal
The hip bone connected to the……eh I forget how it goes. Anyway, its great to see the problem has been diagnosed and he’s on the road to recovery. This should relieve the stress and burden on his hamstring, which should hopefully allow him to tap back in to his plus plus speed. Just wanted to pass this on.
David Hale offers updates on a number of our walking wounded here. Colvin will be back soon, while Singleton is still shut down, but the team is confident its just a normal ankle sprain with no long term ramifications. Tyson Gillies is starting to resume some baseball activities, but the team wants to limit the possibility of another hamstring setback, so they are taking it slow. Check out the article for the full details.
Bob Brookover brings the words. Its nice to hear Aumont feels good about himself again. I think sometimes the human element does get lost in the mix when focusing on arm strength, walk rate, pitchability and the like, but its still vitally important. While Aumont may have had more value in the rotation, if he’s comfortable in the pen, and he rebounds to his 92-96 level fastball with his sharp curveball, there will still be plenty of value there to extract. So far so good.
Matt Gelb of the Philadelphia Inquirer is reporting that Brody Colvin has been placed on the disabled list by Clearwater after failing to complete the third inning yesterday. Multiple outlets are reporting that the injury is a back injury.
One other note, pitcher Ryan Sasaki, a 13th round pick in the 2009 draft has been suspended for 50 games for an elevated testosterone/epitestosterone level.
