I started going to the Carpenter Complex in 2012.  Dylan Cozens is a player I have followed since that first summer.  For the first time since that summer, Cozens will not be on one of our affiliated rosters.  Dylan’s not the first player I have followed who has been released, but he was among the longest tenured.  The only player remaining with the organization from his draft class, the Class of 2012, is Drew Anderson. Threshers Recap – 7/30/2019

Just a few random things before the recaps.

Tuesday, Trenton completed a suspended game from May 30th.  They trailed 6-0 when the game was halted.  They completed and lost the seven inning game.  No big deal, right?  Unless you’re Reading.  Trenton and Reading finished the first half tied.  Because the Thunder played 2 less games, they had a better winning percentage.  But, this loss changes their first half record, and the finished a half game behind Reading.   Not too late to do the right thing Eastern League. Threshers Recap – 7/29/2019

Box Score Recap

DJ Jefferson made his professional debut.  He threw a scoreless, 1-2-3 inning against the other Phillies GCL team.  Jefferson was a non-drafted free agent signed out of Desert Oasis High School this summer.  He exhibited a strong arm today.  The father of one of our other HS pitchers commented that the ball comes out of Jefferson’s hand so smooth. Clearwater (19-21, 55-51)  beat Charlotte, 2-1.

Alejandro Requena pitched into the sixth inning allowing one run on 4 hits and 2 walks.  He struck out six.  He left with 2 outs and the bases loaded.  Austin Ross stranded 3 inherited runners and struck out 3 batters in 1.1 innings.  Tyler Carr struck out two in two, one-hit innings as he picked up his 4th save.  Requena threw 63 strikes in 81 pitches (77.8%) Continue reading Threshers Recap – 7/28/2019 →

Open Discussion: Week of July 29th

Weekly Discussion

Sell … Sell … SELL!!!  Ah, sell whom?  Sell what?  I don’t know that we have anyone in whom a contender would be interested, whom we would also want to deal.  Maybe, the Phillies remain buyers, looking forward to the 2020 season.  Perhaps such additions add a pulse to this team and they catch the added benefit of contending into September. Threshers Recap – 7/27/2019

Box Score Recap

Clearwater (18-21, 54-51)  lost to Charlotte, 6-3.

Early hook for James McArthur.  He went 1.1 innings and threw 46 pitches.  He left with the bases loaded trailing 2-0.  His final line included 2 hits, 3 runs, 4 walks, and 3 strike outs.  Michael Gomez allowed one of the three inherited runners to score (on a double play ball).  He pitched 3.2 innings and gave up a hit and a walk.  Keylan Killgore pitched two, scoreless, no-hit innings.  He walked a batter and struck out two.  Zach Warren took the loss, giving up 3 runs on 3 hits and 2 walks in two innings. Box Score Recap

A couple notable individual achievements last night.  Spencer Howard made his Reading debut.  He struck out ten batters in 4.2 innings and started the evening by striking out the side.

Lakewood’s Manuel Silva and Ethan Lindow pitched a combined shutout, walking none.  Lindow thew just 49 pitches in four innings, 78.7% for strikes, and struck out six. Continue reading Threshers Recap – 7/26/2019 →
