Box Score Recap – 9/2/2016

Lehigh Valley clinched the wild card behind Ben Lively’s six inning, no-hit masterpiece.

Reading wasted six shutout innings from Mark Leiter and lost to Trenton.  They still only need one win this weekend in Trenton to clinch the division.

Clearwater kept their post season hopes alive with a victory over Dunedin behind Elniery Garcia’s seven-inning two-hitter.  They must sweep their final three games against Dunedin to qualify for the post season.

Lakewood clinched the division with a win behind Seranthony Dominguez’ six shutout innings.

Williamsport beat Batavia behind Felix Paulino’s six, three-hit innings.

Sounds like a “pitching rich environment” in the organization.

The GCL Phillies’ game was pushed back to Sunday.  They host the GCL Braves at noon in a one-game semifinal. Continue reading Box Score Recap – 9/2/2016

Box Score Recap – 9/1/2016

Lehigh Valley was eliminated from the division race but remains within one win of clinching the wild card.  They wasted a great start by Anthony Vasquez last night.

Reading lost but needs only one win v. Trenton over a four-game weekend to clinch the division.

Alberto Tirado pitched masterfully as Lakewood won and crept closer to clinching the division.

One day after being eliminated from post-season play, Williamsport beat Batavia by a touchdown.

Clearwater’s game was postponed.  They must sweep their final four games against Dunedin to qualify for the post season.

Box Score Recap – 8/31/2016

Andrew Knapp’s home run has put Lehigh Valley within one win of clinching a place in the post season.

Dylan Cozens (38) led a five home run barrage as Reading stretched their narrow lead in the division race with a lop-sided victory.

Lakewood lost, but so did their only rival for the division.  So, they are one game closer to clinching their division.

In spite of a victory, Williamsport was eliminated from post season eligibility.

Clearwater’s game was cancelled.  They must sweep their final four games against Dunedin to qualify for the post season.

The GCL Phillies were rained out today, and tomorrow’s games have already been cancelled.  The playoffs are scheduled to begin Friday. Continue reading Box Score Recap – 8/31/2016

Box Score Recap – 8/30/2016

The GCL Phillies clinched the GCL Northwest Division title and will begin the playoffs Friday with a one-game series against the GCL Braves.

Lehigh Valley remains in the lead for the wild card.

Reading maintained their narrow lead in the division race with a victory.

Clearwater swept a double header while Dunedin’s game was suspended.

Williamsport won but is still on the verge of elimination.

Lehigh Valley remains in the lead for the wild card in spite of a loss.

Reading maintained their narrow lead in the division race with a victory behind Ricardo Pinto.  Trenton kept pace.  Cozens picked up RBIs 115 and 116.

Clearwater’s game was suspended while Dunedin won and Dayton dropped two.

Williamsport lost and is on the verge of elimination.

The GCL Phillies maintained their slim lead over the Blue Jays as they approach the final end of season series between the two teams.  Fanti pitched well in his return to the rotation.  Moniak had two hits. Continue reading Box Score Recap – 8/29/2016

Box Score Recap – 8/28/2016

Lehigh Valley inched closer to a playoff berth behind Ben Lively’s solid start.

Reading maintained their narrow lead in the division race despite a shaky outing by their bull pen.  Jake Fox clobbered two home runs

Clearwater kept their slim, playoff hopes alive with a come back victory fueled by Jiandido Tromp.

Lakewood maintained their three game lead behind solid pitching by Jose Taveras and clutch hitting by Damek Tomscha.

Box Score Recap – 8/27/2016

Lehigh Valley won behind Anthony Vasquez’ quality effort and reduced their magic number to clinch a playoff  berth to six.

Reading lost again.  They have lost six of their last seven games.  Good thing they’ve already clinched a playoff berth.

Clearwater won behind Will Morris and Zach Coppola and remain alive in their division race, barely.

Lakewood lost but still has a 3.0 game lead.  Their magic number is six.

Williamsport won but is 5.0 games back in the wild card race.  Their elimination number is four.

And, the GCL Phillies lost.  But they are very much in control of their own destiny.  And Kevin Gowdy returned to the mound in a short rehab appearance. Continue reading Box Score Recap – 8/27/2016

Box Score Recap – 8/26/2016

The two hottest teams in the organization won again behind strong pitching performances by Seranthony Dominguez for Lakewood and Mauricio Llovera for the GCL Phillies.  JoJo Romero pitched a strong six innings for Williamsport but the Crosscutters were unable to take advantage.  The most dramatic offensive highlight was Josh Stephen’s two-run home run that provided the late inning runs the Phillies needed to extend their winning streak to seven games. Box Score Recap – 8/25/2016

The GCL Phillies, one of the youngest teams in the GCL, opened up a 2.0 game lead over the Blue Jays with their second victory in as many days over the team with whom they are contesting the division.  They received stellar pitching from Kyle Young, Jordan Kurokawa, Oskerlly Sanchez, and Tyler Frohwirth coupled with timely hitting from Mickey Moniak, Lenin Rodriguez, Jose Antequera, Nerluis Martinez, and Danny Zardon.  Total team effort.

Phil Klein pitched Lehigh Valley to an imporatnt win.  John Richy pitched Reading to a much needed win.  As did Elniery Garcia for Clearwater.

Alberto Tirado pitched the rampaging BlueClaws to another win as they remain atop their division.

Cole Irvin rounded out the role call of starters who pitched well.  Shoddy defense cost the Cutters 2 unearned runs. Continue reading Box Score Recap – 8/25/2016

Box Score Recap – 8/24/2016

Sixto Sanchez shone as the GCL Phillies took over sole control of first place.  Cole Stobbe and Rudolfo Duran homered in support.

Tyler Gilbert, Blake Quinn, and Scott Harris pitched a combined shutout for Lakewood. The BlueClaws hammered out 16 hits and 13 runs.

Featherston, Ruf, Lino, Quinn, and Canelo all homered in losing causes.
