Clearwater Threshers Recap – 8/11/2018

Sorry for missing yesterday’s recap.  We drove up from Clearwater and opted to drive straight thru rather than stop half way.  I’m still beat, and my laptop doesn’t have the functionality that I’m used to on my desktop.  So, here’s the start of those really truncated Recaps I promised.

Old news, we traded McKenzie Mills to Miami for 1B Justin Bour.  I got this message while on the road.  Alec Bohm was activated, and made a rehab start in the GCL.  His only playing half of a game is no big deal.  The Phillies do this a lot.  J.P. Crawford was eased back into action recently playing half games his three appearances.

And last night, Wilson Ramos made his first rehab appearance with the Threshers, and played just five innings. Continue reading Clearwater Threshers Recap – 8/11/2018

Clearwater Threshers Recap – 8/6/2018

Limited action Monday night.  Very little action in the Threshers’ second game against Tampa where they were no-hit through the seven innings of regulation, and won in the shootout.

The Clearwater Threshers (59-52) swept Tampa, 4-3 and 1-0, both in eight innings.

Game One Mauricio Llovera gave up 3 runs (2 ER) in the first inning on a fielding error, single, and 2 doubles.  But he settled down and retired 17 batters in order through the completion of the sixth inning.  He struck out seven.  Addison Russ grabbed the win with two, no-run, no-hit innings.  He walked one, struck out two, and survived the OT runner. Clearwater Threshers Recap – 8/3/2018

With about 4 weeks left in minor league seasons, the Phillies started a chain of promotions that looked like dominoes falling.  Twenty-year old 3B Jake Holmes (.353) was promoted from the GCL to Williamsport, 22-year old SS Madison  Stokes (.338) from Williamsport to Lakewood, 20-year old Daniel Brito (.252) from Lakewood to Clearwater, 22-year old Jose Pujols (.301, 18 HR) from Clearwater to Reading, 24-year old Jiandido Tromp (.228) from Reading to Lehigh Valley, and the release of 31-year old Adron Chambers (.278) from Lehigh Valley.  The biggest surprise to me is that J.P. Crawford went on a road trip with the Threshers.  I would have expected the SS to continue his rehab at Lehigh Valley.

The Clearwater Threshers (56-51) rallied to beat Bradenton 9-6.  Adonis Medina and Blake Quinn buried the Threshers early with a 6-0 deficit after three innings.  Medina faced 6 batters and gave up 5 runs before recording an out,  and that out was picking the runner off first base.  He would give up 3 more base hits before being relieved after the second inning.   Continue reading Clearwater Threshers Recap – 8/3/2018

Clearwater Threshers Recap – 8/2/2018

The Clearwater Threshers (55-51) beat Tampa, 2-0.  J.P. Clearwater Threshers Recap – 8/1/2018

Recaps for an indefinite period will be a little sketchy.  We have guests, a favorite niece and two favorite grandchildren.  A favorite daughter arrives this weekend.  I find I have little time to do the write up and can’t stay up as late as usual to expand on them.  When they all depart toward the end of next week, we are traveling north for a visit that culminates at CBP for the Phantasy Camp reunion game on August 18th against the Mets.  The grandkids are pre-teens and my back is already sore after just one day.  I opted to go to dinner with the family and missed Crawford’s initial rehab with the Threshers.  SMH.  I imagine I’ll have more time when I’m in the Paoli area in two weeks.  In the mean time, I’m sorry for the expected drop off in content.

The Clearwater Threshers (54-51) lost to Tampa, 5-2.  J.P. Crawford went 0-3 with 2 strike outs before being replaced by Jose Gomez.  McKenzie Mills gave up 3 runs in five innings on 4 hits and 5 walks with 6 strike outs.  Grant Dyer gave up the other 2 runs in one inning of work.  The Tarpons were successful on 6 of 7 steal attempts.  Five came against Mills.  Their one CS was on a pickoff.  The offense managed just 4 hits.  Pujols and Moniak doubled, Rivas and Cabral singled.  Pujols and Rivas had the RBIs.  Markham had an outfield assist.
