Everybody lost again last night although Lehigh Valley posted a win in their split with Columbus.  Abel and Painter made their initial starts for the season.  Both suffered the loss for their respective teams, though Painter was burned by an unearned run. Lehigh Valley (2-0) remained undefeated as their game with the Columbus Clippers was postponed due to inclement weather.  The game will be made up Saturday as part of a doubleheader.  Game one starts at 4:05 PM.  The second game will begin at 6:35 PM or 30 minutes after the end of game one, whichever is later.  Both games will be seven innings. Lehigh Valley (2-0) spotted Columbus an unearned run in the first inning but shut the Clippers down over the next eight innings as the IronPigs won handily, 6-1. 

The home team surrendered a run on Ronald Torreyes’ fielding error after a one-out single, stolen base, and single.  Starting pitcher Michael Mariot (0.00) escaped the inning without further damage.  He allowed two more base runners over the next three innings and posted a solid line of – 4.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 1 HBP. The 2022 minor league season opened last night and Triple-A Lehigh Valley (1-0) posted a come-from-behind, 7-3 victory over the Columbus Clippers.  The IronPigs fell behind 3-0 in the fifth inning but came roaring back with a 7-run eighth inning.  Theirs was the only affiliated game in the organization as Reading, Jersey Shore, and Clearwater open their seasons this Friday. Lehigh Valley (53-68) lost to Buffalo, 4-3.  

But, first, I’d like to acknowledge the wonderful season that Ranger Suarez has put together to help keep the Phillies in the playoff hunt.  I think his performance Saturday may be the best I’ve seen by a Phillies pitcher since, well … Halladay’s no-hitters come to mind.  Bravo, Ranger!  Now, back to the IronPigs. Lehigh Valley (53-67) lost to Buffalo, 5-4 in ten innings.  In true Phillies fashion, the bullpen blew a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the ninth inning, then gave up the winning run in the tenth when the offense couldn’t score in the top half of the extra inning. Lehigh Valley (53-66) beat Buffalo, 3-0, in a game called after the IronPigs batted in the top of the seventh inning.

Colton Eastman (1-1, 4.40) pitched all six innings.  He allowed five hits, walked none, and struck out four.  He threw an effective 69 pitches with 48 strikes (69.6%).  He also got 10 groundouts and zero flyouts.  Alec Bohm, Nick Maton, and Darick Hall chipped in with two double plays.
