Phillies Affiliates’ Recap (9/23/2021)

Lehigh Valley (53-67) lost to Buffalo, 5-4 in ten innings.  In true Phillies fashion, the bullpen blew a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the ninth inning, then gave up the winning run in the tenth when the offense couldn’t score in the top half of the extra inning.

Jack Perkins went five innings and was the pitcher of record until the ninth.  He gave up 2 runs on 6 hits and 2 walks.  Mike Adams struck out two in one inning.  As did Seranthony Dominguez.  SD needed just 12 pitches and threw 9 strikes.  Jeff Singer struck out one in one inning.  JD Hammer blew the save by giving up 2 runs on 2 hits and 2 walks in the ninth.  Damon Jones lost the game by immediately loading the bases with a hit batter and a walk.  He got an out via strikeout but surrendered the run on a base hit.  Hammer and Jones are still pitching like they are under the gaze of Girardi.

Lehigh Valley took the lead with a run in the second inning on a ground out.  They retook the lead in the sixth with 2 runs on solo HRs by Adam Haseley and Jorge Bonifacio.  They scored an insurance run in the top of the ninth on an RBI single by Rafael Marchan.  In the tenth, Dalton Guthrie successfully sacrificed the ghost runner to third.  But, Haseley grounded out to first and Alec Bohm struck out.

Haseley went 1-4 with a walk.  Bohm went 1-5 with 2 K. Mickey Moniak went 0-3 with a walk.  Bryson Stott went 1-3 with a walk.  Marchan went 1-2 with 2 walks and an RBI.  Simon Muzziotti went 0-3.

DSL Phillies Red (30-20) beat the DSL Rockies, 5-3.  Sergio Sanchez opened with three shutout innings.  He gave up 2 hits, allowed no walks, and struck out five.  Santiago Torres went 2-3 with a HR, double, and 2 RBI.  They are 1.0 game out of first place behind the Rockies (tied in the loss column).

DSL Phillies White (31-18) beat the DSL Rangers2, 3-2.  Giussepe Valesquez (3.05) pitched four shutout innings allowing 2 hits and a walk and striking out five.  Erick Brito (.328) went 1-2 with 2 walks.  Kliubert Avila (.319) went 3-4 with an RBI.  They have a 2.0 game lead over the Rangers2 (up 3 games in the loss column).

  1. It sure feels like LHV should be hitting and scoring runs every night, especially against that level of pitching since the better pitchers are all in the majors now. Disappointing reality

    1. Interesting that he was also good as a 17 year old (small sample) but wasn’t brought stateside. I guess we’ll see if he gets moving next year.

  2. My goodness – why would you ever insert Cam Bedrosian into a Major League Baseball game – let alone at a critical moment? Brutal and entirely predictable. How is he even on this team?

    1. Right now, Girardi trusts 3 relievers and he is using them hard: Kennedy, Neris, Alvarado

Brogdon getting hurt really didn’t help.

Coonrod and Archie are next but they’ve been giving up runs lately.

Then it’s Falter and then Cam who has been gettiing hurt. Perhaps Giradi will lean on Falter for innings. If didnt work with Cam and Hammer.

And lastly Rosso seems to be the mop up duty.
