Phillies Affiliates’ Recap (9/25/2021)

Lehigh Valley (53-68) lost to Buffalo, 4-3.

But, first, I’d like to acknowledge the wonderful season that Ranger Suarez has put together to help keep the Phillies in the playoff hunt.  I think his performance Saturday may be the best I’ve seen by a Phillies pitcher since, well … Halladay’s no-hitters come to mind.  Bravo, Ranger!  Now, back to the IronPigs.

Mauricio Llovera (3.80) pitched three innings and gave up 2 runs on 4 hits and 2 walks.  Jake Hernandez (5.04) pitched 1.1 innings and gave up 2 runs on a hit and a walk.  Brian Marconi allowed 2 inherited runners to score in 0.2 innings walking two.  Mark Appel (6.15) pitched one inning and walked a batter to lead off the next inning and was lifted.  Damon Jones ( 5.31) stranded the runner and retired the side with two strikeouts.  Mike Adams (3.24) pitched one inning allowing one hit.

The IronPigs pulled within a run in the fourth inning on Alec Bohm’s solo HR.  They pulled within two runs with a run in the sixth on an RBI single by Bryson Stott.  They closed within one run again with a run in the eighth on an RBI single by CJ Chatham.

Adam Haseley went 0-5.  Alec Bohm went 3-5 with a double, HR,  and RBI.  Mickey Moniak went 0-5.  Jorge Bonifacio went 1-1 with 3 walks.  Bryson Stott went 2-3 with a walk and RBI.  Logan O’Hoppe went 1-3 with a walk.  Cornelius Randolph went 1-4 with a double.

The IronPigs’ starting lineup featured the Phillies’ first round picks from 2015 thru 2019:  Randolph, Moniak, Haseley, Bohm, and Stott.

DSL Phillies Red (30-22) and DSL Phillies White (32-19) finished a game that was suspended in the top of the sixth inning back on September 11th with White leading 5-1.  The final was White 9-5.  The scheduled game was cancelled.

RHP Giussepe Velasquez (2.61) started the game for White and pitched four, one-run innings on 4 hits and one walk.  He recorded three strikeouts.  RHP Pedro Reyes (3.79) pitched 0.2 innings allowing a hit and striking out a batter before the game was halted.  RHP Juan Melendez stranded the inherited runner when play resumed today.  But, he pitched an inning and gave up 2 runs on 2 hits and 2 walks with 2 strikeouts.  RHP Jaydenn Estanista (3.33), the oldest of the 4 pitchers at 19 years of age, came in and stranded 3 inherited runners.  He gave up 2 runs in 3.1 innings on 2 hits, no walks, and 3 strikeouts.

SS Jehisbert Sevilla (.281) went 3-4 with a triple, walk, and RBI.  LF Erick Brito (.342) went 2-4 with a double, walk, and 2 RBI.  RF Ricardo Rosario (.242) went 2-4 with a walk and RBI.

RHP Javier Fuenmayor (4.12) started back on the 11th and lasted 3.1 innings and gave up 5 runs (3 ER) on 5 hits and a walk.  RHP Jared Loyo (5.91) allowed 2 inherited runners to score and pitched 2.2 innings, he was on the mound when the games restarted,  He gave up 2 runs (1 ER) on 2 hits, 2 walks, and 3 strikeouts.  RHP Joalbert Angulo (4.15) pitched two innings and gave up 2 runs on 3 hits and 3 walks.

C Jorge Mendez (1.89) went 2-3 with a HBP and 2 RBI.  3B Randy Vasquez (.250) went 2-4 with a double.

It will be interesting to see how many, if any, of the DSL youngsters are brought stateside for Instructs.  And, when since Instructs start on Monday the 27th and the DSL season runs thru Saturday, October 2nd.

  1. I guess that decision to put Ranger in the rotation looks pretty good now doesn’t it? Oh yea it does. Ranger and Harper are the only reasons this team still has a chance to win the division (they won’t) plus they’re one win away from a winning season. Finally!

    1. Yes. Kudos to Ranger for the outstanding job not only last night, but since he has been in the rotation. This site I believe was overwhelmingly against the decision to move him from the bullpen. I guess once in a while things work out.

  2. Congrats to Hans Crouse….his contract taken by the big club and starting today’s game. He could prove to be a key this final week. An unknown but effective against big league bats.

    1. This is fantastic! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the Crouse/Kennedy/Gibson trade was pure genius and could easily be the difference-maker this season and perhaps even next season. It was a brilliantly conceived and executed trade. This is where a DD or Gillick-level GM makes the biggest difference over a well below average GM like Klentak. Thank God!
