With Scott Mathieson back and throwing well, it got me to thinking about the 40 man roster this winter and who could be vulnerable to the Rule 5 draft. For those of you unfamiliar with the rules regarding the roster, check the site FAQ here, where I’ve outlined the rules regarding the 40 man and how options work. Losing 4 prospects in the Lee deal will remove one pending decision (Donald), but we still have others yet to be answered. Check below for more…

Re-racking the Top 15
Now that we’ve lost 4 of our theoretical Top 15, I thought it would be a fun exercise to ponder what is left (assuming nothing else in the works) and look ahead to this winter. This is in no way set in stone, this is just an off the top of my head thought process based on the guys remaining and is subject to change on a whim.

Phillies have trade done for Cliff Lee
This deal, according to Andy Martino is agreed to pending physicals, which seem like a formality.
The deal, as reported here by Ken Rosenthal, is Cliff Lee and OF Ben Francisco for Jason Knapp, Jason Donald, Carlos Carrasco and Lou Marson.
For Indians fans who find my site via google, here are some links for you to find info on the prospects you’re getting.
Carlos Carrasco
Jason Knapp
Jason Donald
Lou Marson
You can also find weekly updates on these guys by checking the Lehigh Valley (AAA) reports here. Check below the fold for my take on this deal
Carrasco scratched, Marson/Donald not in lineup
Something in the works? Marson you can understand, day game after a night game, but Carrasco was the scheduled starter, and now Woods is showing up as the starter. Read into it what you will.
Trade Discussion, Week of July 27
This is it. Again, please keep all of the trade talk out of other discussions. I’m not weighing in on all of the Halladay speculation until something actually happens or the deadline passes. But carry on, just do it here and remain civil. Thanks
Trade Discussion, Week of July 20th
I know that Halladay mania has swept this site, and most of Phillies fandom, and that’s fine, its something legitimately exciting and definitely something worth talking about. But it has started to invade every other corner of this site, and in sticking with my past preferences, I’d like to fence off all the trade talk into one spot, and this is going to be the spot. I’ll make sure this post stays on the first page of the site so its easy to find, but please do not post your trade chatter in other discussion topics. Thanks.
A review of my Top 30
I’ve been meaning to take a look at my top 30 rankings from this past winter, so I suppose now is as good a time as any. I’ll just give a brief sentence on each, and whether I think their stock is up, down, or unchanged. This isn’t my current top 30 ranking, I’m not moving anyone around from my prior ranking, just giving a brief comment on each guy. So, here goes, check below the fold…

Friday discussion items
Just a few odds and ends
* Anthony Hewitt is 8 for his last 15, with two triples and a HR. The BB/K numbers are still ugly, but I’ll take it for now.
* Domingo Santana has 7 XBH (4 2B, 3 HR) in 28 AB. That’s quite a way to kick off your US debut
* With all of the talk about Roy Halladay, I’ve started to kind of figure out what I think it will take to get a deal done. And I think about how its going to take a big chunk out of the Phillies farm system. But then I look at the first 20 or so guys on the prospect list, and realize that even if the team trades 4 or 5 guys, there are still going to be a bunch of guys that will merit watching. And that doesn’t count two power arms who still haven’t thrown a ball in Cosart and Shreve. I’ll continue this below…
