Box Score Recap (5/23/24)

Lehigh Valley won in a walk off in ten innings on a Weston Wilson 3-run HR.  Reading lost.  Jersey Shore was shutout again.  Clearwater won on the strength of an 8-run inning.  The FCL Phillies lost.


FCL Phillies (7-6) Maxwell Hernandez had a rough day.  He couldn’t get an out in the second inning and gave up 7 runs on eight hits and 2 walks.  Josbel Garcia came in and stranded 2 inherited runners.  He went on to pitch 4.0 innings allowing one run on 4 hits, a walk, and a hit batter.  Kleyderve Andrade pitched a scoreless inning.

Junior Marin had a 2-run single for the Phillies only offense.

Lehigh Valley (18-28) beat Rochester, 5-2.  Ricardo Pinto pitched six innings and gave up 2 runs on 5 hits and 3 walks.  Max Lazar pitched two scoreless innings allowing one hit and walking two.  Taylor Lehman tossed a 1-2-3 inning.  Ryan Burr picked up the win with a 1-2-3 inning.

The IronPigs tied the game with 2 runs in the second inning on solo HRs by Aramis Garcia (1) and Matt Kroon (2).  The game remained tied until extra innings when the IronPigs walked off on a 3-run HR in the tenth by Weston Wilson (4).

RF Simon Muzziotti had 2 outfield assists, one at second and one at third.

Reading (18-24) lost to Binghamton, 13-6.  Matt Osterberg pitched four innings and gave up 4 runs on 6 hits and 3 walks with 6 strikeouts.  Tristan Garnett pitched two scoreless innings, no his, no walks, 2 strikeouts.  Matt Russell pitched one inning giving up a run on 2 hits and striking out two.  Andrew Schultz retired one of the five batters he faced and gave up 4 runs on 2 hits and 2 walks.  Tommy McCollum let 2 inherited runners score, retired one of the seven batters he faced, and gave up 4 runs on 4 hits and 2 hit batters.  Zach Haake stranded 2 inherited runners and pitched 1.1 scoreless innings allowing a hit and 2 walks.

Reading scored 3 runs in the first inning on a 2-run double by Carlos De La Cruz and a sac fly by Ethan Wilson.  Thay scored 2 runs in the third on an RBI triple by De La Cruz and another sac fly by Wilson.  They scored one run in the fourth on an RBI single by Kendall Simmons.

They were able to maintain a lead until an 8-run eighth by the Rumble Ponies.

Jersey Shore (23-19) lost to Aberdeen, 4-0.  Estibenzon Jimenez pitched 4.2 innings and gave up 4 runs on 6 hits and a walk.  Andrew Walling stranded an inherited runner and pitched 1.1 scoreless innings retiring all 4 batters he faced.  Charles King pitched a scoreless inning walking one.  Daniel Harper pitched a 1-2-3 inning.

Justin Crawford had 2 of the BlueClaws 3 hits as they were shut out for the second game in a row.

Clearwater (29-13) beat St. Lucie, 13-7.  Casey Steward pitched into the second inning but didn’t record an out.  In one inning, he gave up 3 runs on 2 hits, a walk, and 2 hit batters.  Jose Pena allowed an inherited runner to score and pitched three innings, no his, no runs, 4 walks, 3 strikeouts.  Brandon Beckel got the win with three, one run innings on 2 hits and a walk.  He struck out four.  Paxton Thompson gave up 3 runs in two innings on 3 hits and a walk.

Fortunately, on a night the pitching was shaky, the hitters showed up.  The Threshers scored one run in the second inning on an RBI ground out by Kehden Hettiger.  They pulled ahead with 4 runs in the sixth on a bases-loaded walk by Devin Saltiban, a sac fly by Pierce Bennett, and a 2-run single by Raylin Heredia.  With just a one-run lead the Threshers exploded for 8 runs in the eighth on a 2-run double by Heredia, a passed ball, an RBI single by Avery Owusu-Asiedu, an rbi ground-rule double by Aidan Miller, an RBI single by Luis Caicuto, and a 2-run HR (2) by Dakota Kotowski.

The Threshers were 5-11 with men in scoring position.

  2. It appeared that in the Clearwater game, Chenault was ejected, as was the manager. This occurred after his seconf hit batter and after he had served up a homerun JGO
