  1. Reading lost unfortunately.
Is it time to be worried about Abel? I question whether he’ll ever turn the corner.
Is it time to get excited about Mendez? He seems to be doing a good job.
Klassen on a pitch count still hard to score on. When he’s off the pitch count, I have to think gel get promoted.
G Rosario with the game of his life, even if it’s in rookie ball. Congrats to him.

    1. I think Klassen is going to be on a pitch count for a while, at least until mid-June. At this point, I don’t expect any promotions until we get close to the MLB draft in July.

  2. Have to wonder why Casey Martin and Baron Radcliffe are still in the organization. I know they are just fillers at this point but surely they can find somebody better to help Reading.

      1. I would think if they really cared they could find somebody better than a 26 year old hitting .135 and a 25 year old hitting .147. Neither of whom have hit anywhere before.

        1. The Phillies could demote them, but by this point, what good would that do. They are both 4th year players in the system out of university. The Phillies know that they are filler.

And even though Reading’s record is not great, the main purpose of the minors is to develop players. If Rincones Jr develops, then nobody would care that Reading is sub. 500.

Did you know that in 2021, Bryson Stott spent the majority of his time at AA with a .848 OPS? Reading’s record in 2021 was 48-65.

  3. I think it may be close to the time for the Phillies to put Abel on the Development List for a week or so. Let him clear his head and work in some side sessions. Last night he threw a lot of pitches in the first inning….21 – 4Smrs alone. The 50 plus 4Smrs for the night sat in 93-95T96 mph range, …but his pitch count was over 90 pitches into the 5th inning.

    1. I agree. Something is clearly wrong w Abel. Has anyone read anything? Stuff is down. Command is worse. He has to be struggling with confidence at this point.

      1. Whatever is going with Abel this season, the results are disastrous. As far as I’m concerned, this year is a bust for Abel and he needs to show something in ST next season.

      2. I think, the control is still an issue, but mostly I believe its mental at this point. Every start he has 1 bad inning where he loses his focus/control. That inning runs up his pitch counts and causes issues. It’s always one big inning.

He also seems to have issues when something bad happens, he can’t battle through it.

Thats why I think it’s mental

  4. Their names have appeared on lists of players who could be moved by the trade deadline. Their names have been mentioned here

Luis Robert and Michael Kopech won’t make the Chisox contenders any time soon. Nothing is a sure thing in baseball but adding them to the Phils’ roster would significantly move the needle. Both are young enough to be integral parts of the Phils for a long time.

What would you give up in what presumably be a prospect-heavy package? Top Phils prospects are not surging at the moment which is unfortunate all the way around. The challenge is fitting into a constrained budget both a Gold Glove center fielder with some pop and a reliever you can use in high leverage situations. What should the Phils be willing to give up for these 2?

    1. As always, you need to give talent to get talent and Robert/Kopech are very talented players.

Assuming Robert is healthy, Justin Crawford has to be the centrepiece of the deal. Perhaps Crawford and Saltiban.

For Kopech, I’m leaning to towards Aldegheri and Pouka-Grego.

And yes, if that’s the deal for Kopech, I’m sure the White Sox will find somebody else to beat it. I think Painter/Miller/Caba are untouchable and Abel hasn’t performed well at all.

  5. regardinh Abel, Jim said they were new stuff with him, which seems like the source of the struggles, but who knows, its so weird.
