Phillies’ Affiliates Recap (7/12/2022)

Here are today’s results. 

Lehigh Valley (45-40) lost to the Charlotte Knights, 5-2.  JoJo Romero threw a scoreless inning in the eighth striking out one.  Donny Sands (.341) went 2-4.  Adam Haseley (.282) hit a 3-run HR in the first inning for the Knights.  Yacksel Rios (3.25 picked up the save with a single, walk, and 2 Ks in the ninth.

Reading (37-45, 8-5) beat the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, 6-0.  Ethan Lindow threw six shutout innings allowing 5 hits, 2 walks, and striking out five.  Trevor Bettencourt came off the IL to throw a 3-strikeout inning.  Francisco Morales tossed a clean inning.  And, McKinley Moore preserved the shutout with a one-hit ninth.  Johan Camargo made a start and went 2-3 with a walk and 2 RBI.  Johan Rojas had 2 hits and 2 stolen bases.  Jhailyn Ortiz had 2 hits and an RBI.

Jersey Shore (27-53, 2-12) v. the Aberdeen IronBirds was postponed.  

Clearwater (40-41, 5-11) lost to the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels, 9-5.  Starlyn Castillo gave up 7 runs early.  He wasn’t helped by Carlos Betancourt who allied both inherited runners to score.  Marcus Lee Sang went 3-3 with a double and walk.  Andrick Nava had 2 hits including a HR (2) and 4 RBI.

FCL Phillies (10-16) lost 2 games against the Blue Jays on Monday, 9-6 and 7-6, and lost to the Yankees, 15-10, on Tuesday.  The first game on Monday was the completion of a suspended game from last week.  featured HRs by Felix Reyes (4) and Jordan Viars (2). Tuesday, Cam Bedrosian pitched a rehab inning and gave up 2 runs on 2 hits, a walk, and a strikeout.  Lee Hao Yu got a rehab start and scored 3 runs on a double and 2 walks.  Felix Reyes had 2 hits and 3 RBI.  Ricardo Rosario had 2 hits and his first HR.  Rickardo Perez played five innings.

DSL Phillies Red (17-9) beat the DSL Tigers1, 2-1, on Monday and beat the DSL Texas Blue, 4-1, on Tuesday.  Jerffson Pena had a 2-run double against Texas (and 3 strikeouts).  Luis Pelegrin started the scoring in the 4-run sixth with a steal of home (on a double steal).  Adilson Peralta opened with five innings allowing one run on 3 hits, a walk, and 5 strikeouts.  Luis Gomez followed with four shutout innings allowing 3 hits, a walk, and 4 strikeouts.  He was 0-1 with a walk and sacrifice fly.

DSL Phillies White (15-11) lost to the DSL Giants Orange, 2-0, on Monday and beat the DSL Pittsburgh Black, 14-2, on Tuesday.  Jorge Garcia had 3 hits and 6 RBI against Pittsburgh.  Derek Escobar had 2 hits, 3 walks, and 3 stolen bases.  Maxwell Hernandez (0.68) opened with four, one-hit innings allowing one run on one hit, 3 walks, and 4 strikeouts.  Juan Amarante (3-0, 1.98) followed with three, 2-hit innings allowing one run on 2 hits, 2 walks, and 6 strikeouts.

The FSL is likely to be a testing ground for a shift inhibitor later this month.  Essentially, they are creating an area behind second base where middle infielders cannot set up.  It looks like a quarter circle whose two radii extend along the back of the bag on lines that extend to first and third base.  Read this article by Jayson Stark for more detailed information.
