Everybody lost, but who cares? The Phillies beat the Mets again! Well, we care. About both. Lehigh Valley’s pitchers just got pounded. Reading was shut out on 3 hits and lost by one. Jersey Shore lost by two. Clearwater’s kids dropped two, getting one-hit in the first game. The FCL Phillies were cancelled. And, the DSL Phillies tried to play two against each other. White won the suspended game and the second game was suspended.
Lehigh Valley (37-43) lost to Buffalo, 9-3. Several pitchers had a rough day – David Paulino, 4.1 IP, 4 R, 5 H, 4 BB; Brady Lail, 1.2 IP, 2 R, 2 H, 1 BB; Braeden Ogle, 1.2 IP, 3 R, 5 H, 1 BB. Mike Adams retired the 4 batters he faced.
Mickey Moniak (.257) went 1-4. Matt Vierling (.237) went 1-4. Darick Hall (.223) went 3-4 with a solo HR (9).
You might say Hall has had a resurgence of late. Actually, he has gradually rebounded from a very rocky start. I have it on good authority that he made an adjustment that has worked and has stuck with it. Hall struggled thru May (.123/.260/.259). He improved a little in June (.200/.293/.300). But, really busted out in July (.314/.402/.529). He has continued into August (.400/.429/.800). A more realistic stretch is his June 16th thru August 6th (.276/.340/.455) where he hit 9 doubles, 5 HR, walked 12 times, and struck out 29 times in 151 plate appearances. That’s roughly 8% BB and 20% K.
Reading (33-50) lost to Richmond, 1-0. Adam Leverett (0-5, 7.84) pitched 4.1 innings and gave up one run on 3 hits and a walk. Jonathan Hennigan (7.53) stranded an inherited runner and pitched 0.2 clean innings. Noah Skirrow (4.09) pitched the final three innings allowing just one hit and 2 walks while striking out five.
The Phils managed 3 hits. Madison Stokes (.244) went 1-4 and Josh Stephen (.202) went 2-3.
Jersey Shore (37-46) lost to Aberdeen, 5-3. Victor Vargas (1-1, 2.25) pitched six innings and gave up 3 runs on 3 hits and 3 walks with 5 strikeouts. (6 IP and 3 R used to be a quality start didn’t it?) Blake Brown (4.03) pitched one inning and gave up one run on 2 hits and a walk striking out two. Aidan Anderson (4.97) pitched two innings and gave up one run on 2 hits and a walk.
Logan O’Hoppe (.266) went 2-5 with a double and RBI. DJ Stewart (.247) went 1-3 with a walk. Jose Tortolero (.174) went 2-3 with a HR (2) and 2 RBI. Freddy Francisco made his High-A debut and went 2-4.
Clearwater (38-40) dropped two to Bradenton, 7-0 and 8-3.
Game One: Rafael Marcano (1-2, 3.10) went three innings and gave up 4 runs on 9 hits and 3 walks. Christopher Soriano made his Low-A debut and pitched two innings giving up 3 runs on 5 hits. Brendan Bell threw a 23-pitch inning walking one and striking out two. #8 pick, Jason Ruffcorn made his professional debut and tossed a tight 15-pitch inning walking one and striking out two.
Felix Reyes (.273) went 1-3 and had the Threshers only hit.
Game Two: Dylan Castaneda (2-3, 10.04) went four innings and gave up 7 runs on 7 hits and a walk. Now the good news. NDFA Alex McKenney made his professional debut and pitched one scoreless inning allowing a hit and striking out one. NDFA Tommy McCollum made his professional debut and pitched one inning, gave up a run on a hit and walk, and struck out three. #11 Andrew Baker made his professional debut and struck out the side in his perfect inning.
The Threshers had just 4 hits. Kervin Pichardo (.211) went 2-3 with a double, HR (1), and 3 RBI. Felix Reyes (.286) and Edgar Made(.140) each went 1-3.
FCL Phillies (10-6) game v. Blue Jays cancelled.
DSL Phillies White (11-7) beat DSL Phillies Red (8-10), 4-1 in the completion of a game suspended on July 24th. The scheduled game was suspended in the sixth, tied 1-1. Rickardo Perez hasn’t played since 8/2, Yermal Flores since July 26th.

I havebeen noticing Mike Adams at LHV has been pitching well. He struggled in the lower league but turned it around in AAA. Is he a possibility to replace Llovera or DLS?
Tough night on the farm. Thanks for the encouraging info on Hall. It would be amazing if he finally figured something out. He has as much power as anyone anywhere so he’s someone to watch.
I’d like to note that two other of our “guys” had very different days in S Philly yesterday. JD Hammer looked great and will stick around while Llovera became only the 2nd pitcher ever to do what he did. He’ll be back at LHV today I’m sure.
Some team will take a chance on Hall next season, probably teams like the Os. Prates, Rox or DBacks..
Phillies get TJ Rivera from Pirates. 32 year old IF. He had some pretty good stats for Mets a couple years ago. What did we give up?
Rivera must have been on a minor league contract.
RHP Oswald Medina has gotten his professional career off to a good start in DSL. Sixteen Ks and only one walk in 20 innings. 1.20 WHIP.
I saw on twitter where Andrew Baker was hitting 98 with a high spin rate. Sounds like a nice debut for him.
Hall with another dinger this afternoon.
He is a on a tear 6 HRs in his last 19 games..
