The full-season teams went 2-1 with a postponement. The rookie team lost yesterday and today. Lehigh Valley fell behind early and stayed behind. Reading and Jersy Shore benefitted from some real solid pitching in their wins. Clearwater’s game in Bradenton was postponed and rescheduled as part of a doubleheader on July 8th. The FCL squad dropped a couple of one-run games.
Lehigh Valley (23-32) lost to Worcester, 7-2.
Cristopher Sanchez (2-4, 4.46) went three innings. He gave up 4 runs (3 ER) on 5 hits and 3 walks. Bryan Mitchell went 2.1 innings and gave up 3 runs on 4 hits. David Paulino allowed 2 inherited runners to score and went 1.2 innings on 2 hits and a walk. Mike Adams pitched the final two innings and allowed 4 base runners on 3 walks and a hit.
The IronPigs got their two runs in the third on a force out and Ryan Cordell’s RBI single. Darick Hall went 2-4. Matt Vierling and Mickey Moniak went 0-2 with 2 walks. Nick Maton went 1-4 with an RBI. And, Rafael Marchan went 1-3 with a walk.
Reading (23-32) beat Harrisburg, 4-1.
Jack Perkins (2-0, 3.46) pitched six, one-run innings. He allowed 6 hits, walked two, and struck out three. Aneury Zabala tossed a clean inning with a strikeout. Kyle Dohy allowed one hit in one inning. And, Brian Marconi picked up his sixth save allowing one hit and striking out one.
The Phils scored first with 2 runs in the third on RBI singles by Jorge Bonifacio and McCarthy Tatum. They added two insurance runs in the seventh on Daniel Brito’s solo HR (4), and an RBI double by Josh Stephen.
Bonifacio went 2-2 with 2 runs scored, 2 walks, and an RBI. Brito (.308) went 1-3 with his fourth home run. Stephen went 1-2 with a double, 2 walks, and an RBI.
Jersey Shore (23-31) beat Wilmington 7-0.
Kevin Gowdy (3-3, 3.47) pitched six, solid innings. He shut out the Blue Rocks on 3 hits and a walk. He struck out six. JP Woodward tossed two shutout innings allowing 2 hits and a walk. He struck out four. Carlos Francisco mopped up with a hit and a walk in one inning.
The BlueClaws scored 3 runs in the first inning on a 2-run double by Vito Friscia and an RBI single by Jonathan Guzman. They padded their lead with 3 runs in the fourth on an RBI double by Casey Martin and a 2-run HR by Logan O’Hoppe (7). They tacked on a run in the seventh on DJ Stewart’s solo HR (3).
Jhailyn Ortiz (.261) went 2-3 with a run scored and walk. Keaton Greenwalt went 2-4 with a run scored.
Clearwater (29-25) postponed tropical storm.
FCL Phillies (3-3) lost to the Tigers West on Monday, 3-2, and lost to the Yankees on Tuesday, 5-4 in ten innings.
Monday: Tom Sutera took the loss with one rehab inning where he gave up 2 runs (1 ER). Yoan Antonac pitched two, one-hit innings. Samuel Aldeghari tossed four, one-run innings on 4 hits, a walk, and 6 strikeouts. Chi-Ling Hsu pitched a scoreless inning allowing one hit.
The Phillies scored 2 ninth-inning runs on a bases-loaded walk to Chris Burke and an Alexeis Azuaje forceourt. Burke and Azuaje each went 2-3 with an RBI and a walk. Azuaje had a double.
Tuesday: The game was moved up to 10:00 AM to beat the weather. The game was scoreless for seven innings. Tyler McKay pitched a scoreless, two-hit, rehab inning. Noah Skirrow followed with a clean rehab inning. Sam Jacobsak made his 2021 debut and pitched a scoreless one-walk inning. Jonas De La Cruz followed with two clean innings and 4 strikeouts. Dylan Castaneda pitched three innings and gave up 3 runs on 2 hits and 3 walks. He struck out four. Christopher Soriano took the OT loss. He pitched one-plus innings and gave up 2 runs (1 ER) on one hit and 2 walks.
The Phillies scored two runs in the eighth inning on a wild pitch and an RBI single by rehabbing Colby Fitch. A three-run HR in the bottom half of the inning erased their lead. The Phillies tied the game in the ninth on four, two-out walks, Leandro Pineda getting the game-tying walk. They scored their ghost runner in the tenth on Mitchell Edwards‘ sac fly. They lost when the Yankees’ ghost runner and a leadoff walk scored on a walk-off double.
The Phillies managed just 4 hits, singles by Marcus Lee Sang, Jamari Baylor, Fitch, and Edward Barboza. They only gave up five hits, but the 2 extra-base hits drove in all 5 Yankees’ runs.

Could not agree more. They have great depth at catcher. If they can trade for good young arms, I am all for it, but lets stay away from the Workmans and Hembrees of he world.
