2019 Prospect Discussion, 4 of … ; Brandon Ramey

This is an open format for minor league prospect  discussion.  Today’s subject is Brandon Ramey.  These articles will mostly be about players I have seen.  So, they will be mostly about players from the lower levels of the organization.  If you have someone in particular you want to hear about, put the name in the comments section.  If I’ve seen enough to warrant a post, I’ll strongly consider it. 2019 Prospect Discussion, 3 of … ; Erik Miller

This is an open format for minor league prospect  discussion.  Today’s subject is Erik Miller.  These articles will mostly be about players I have actually seen.  So, they be mostly from the lower levels of the organization.  If you have someone in particular you want to hear about, put the name in the comments section.  If I’ve seen enough to warrant a post, I’ll strongly consider it.

Erik Miller was the Phillies 4th round pick (third overall since they forfeited their second round pick when they signed Harper) in the 2019 draft out of Stanford University.  He was the first of four straight pitchers selected and signed by the Phillies. Open Discussion: Week of October 28th

In Phillies’ baseball news this week, the Phillies hired Brian Barber as their Director of Amateur Scouting.  He replaces Johnny Almarez who stepped down for personal reasons.  A few days later, the Phillies hired Joe Girardi to manage the ball club.  He replaces Gabe Kapler who stepped down because , well … he was fired.  Miller and Girardi both come from the Yankees organization.  If you missed it, I wrote about their backgrounds here. 2019 Prospect Discussion, 2 of … ; Nicoly Pina

This is an open format for any minor league prospect you want to discuss.  However, today’s subject is Nicoly Pina.  I will continue on an irregular schedule for as long as I stay interested.  This will be mostly about low-level prospects, but could include anyone I saw last season.  If you have someone in particular you want to hear about, put the name in the comments section.  If I’ve seen enough to warrant a post, I’ll strongly consider it.

Nicoly Pina was signed by the Phillies as an international free agent on May 3, 2018 out of the Domincan Republic. Continue reading 2019 Prospect Discussion, 2 of … ; Nicoly Pina

Phillies Hire Second Yankee in a Week, More to Come?

The Phillies hired Joe Girardi as their manager today.  Earlier this week, they announced the hiring of Brian Barber as their Director of Amateur Scouting.  Both have in common that their most recent MLB employer was the New York Yankees.

Joe Girardi was drafted by the Chicago Cubs as a catcher in the fifth round of the 1986 Amateur Draft out of Northwestern University. Continue reading Phillies Hire Second Yankee in a Week, More to Come?

2019 Prospect Discussion, 1 of … ; Rixon Wingrove

Here’s an open discussion about some of the Phillies’ minor league prospects I saw this season.  Phillies’ talk and other non-prospect discussion should remain in the Open Discussion.

This is an open format for any minor league prospect you want to discuss.  However, I am going to start with Rixon Wingrove.  I will continue this on an irregular schedule for as long as I stay interested.  This will be mostly about low-level prospects, but could include anyone I saw last season.  If you have someone in particular you want to hear about, put the name in the comments section.  If I’ve seen enough to warrant a post, I’ll strongly consider it.

Rixon Wingrove was signed by the Phillies as an international free agent on April 20, 2018 out of Australia. Continue reading 2019 Prospect Discussion, 1 of … ; Rixon Wingrove

Fourth Annual Phillies Minor League Digest

Pardon this self promotion.  The “Fourth Annual Phillies Minor League Digest” is available on Amazon.  My friend and companion at the Carpenter Complex and Spectrum Field, Steve Potter, authors the digest and solicits participation from writers, photographers, and bloggers who follow the Phillies affiliates.  I provided the chapters on the Clearwater Threshers and the Gulf Coast League. Open Discussion: Week of October 21st

Maybe the Phillies announce their new manager on the off day before the World Series starts.  Supposedly, they are down to Joe Girardi, Buck Showalter, and Dusty Baker.  They also may announce a new Amateur Scouting Director as they have been linked with the Yankees’ national crosschecker, Brian Barber.  In other news … Continue reading Open Discussion: Week of October 21st

Open Discussion: Week of October 14th

The decision has been made to sever ties with manager Kapler and continue with the front office intact and most of Kapler’s staff in place.  Hopefully, we can start to focus on baseball and not suffer too much angst during the hunt for a new manager.  Based on comments during Friday’s news conference, I expect it to be a lengthy process.  In other news … Continue reading Open Discussion: Week of October 14th
