Clearwater (16-19) beat Dunedin, 9-3.
The Threshers swept Dunedin, tightened the North Division, and moved to within 3.5 games of first place. The Threshers exploded for 9 runs and 19 hits on the road at Jack Russell Stadium. To give you an idea of the potency displayed last night, the Threshers out-scored and out-hit ALL of their brother affiliates (5 runs, 17 hits) who all played in front of their home crowds, and lost.
The Threshers opted to go with a bullpen game as Ethan Evanko made his first professional start. Evanko (4.26) pitched 3.1 innings and was charged with 3 runs on 4 hits and 2 walks. He struck out four. Luis Ramirez (2-0, 0.00) was gifted the win after 1.2 no-hit innings. He allowed one of two inherited runners to score, and left with no outs in the sixth after two walks. Keylan Killgore (1.93) stranded those 2 runners and pitched two no-hit innings. Zach Warren mopped up with two no-hit innings and four strikeouts.
The Threshers opened the scoring with a string of long balls. Alec Bohm hit a solo HR in the first inning, his first for Clearwater. Simon Muzziotti broke a tie in the third with a solo HR, his first this season. Edgar Cabral followed with a solo HR (3) in the fourth. After trhe Jays came back to tie, the Threshers scored 2 runs in the sixth on Colby Fitch’s RBI triple and Daniel Brito’s sac fly. They put the game away with 4 runs in the eighth on Cabral’s second solo HR (4), Nick Maton’s RBI single, Bohm’s RBI single, and a passed ball.
With 19 hits, it shouldn’t be a surprise that six Threshers had multi-hit games – Simon Muzziotti had 4 hits; Alec Bohm, Matt Vierling (.317), and Edgar Cabral (.226) had 3 hits each; and Nick Maton and Dalton Guthrie (.241) had 2 hits each.

Tyler Gilbert (1.64) struck out three in two scoreless innings. Luke Leftwich (9.82) gave up 2 runs in 1.2 innings. Josh Martin (3.86) allowed an inherited runner to score on 2 walks and a wild pitch before getting the last out.
Lehigh scored their only run on Lane Adams’ pinch hit, RBI-triple in the fifth inning.

Reading gave up 6 long balls. Ramon Rosso (1-2, 2.73) went 3.1 innings and gave up 6 runs on 5 hits (3 HR) and 4 walks. Garrett Cleavinger (6.48) and after allowing one of two inherited runners to score, gave up 3 runs on 3 hits (1 HR) in 1.2 innings. Connor Brogdon (8.10) gave up 2 runs in 2 innings on 2 hits (1 HR), Addison Russ (2.35) pitched an inning and gave up 4 unearned runs on 2 hits (1 HR) and 2 walks. Henri Lartigue took the mound for the ninth inning and retired the Ducks on a single base hit.
The Phils got their only 2 runs in the fifth inning on Austin Bossart’s 2-run HR (1).

James McArthur (5.03) stranded 2 inherited runners but gave up 2 runs in 3.2 innings. He struck our six. Manny Silva (2.61) gave up a couple runs (1 ER) in three innings, Oscar Marcelino (2.61) pitched two scoreless innings. The 3 relievers combined to strike out 13 batters.
The BlueClaws scored 2 runs on Cole Stobbe’s 2-run HR (2) in the ninth inning. The ream combines for just 4 hits and drew 0 walks.

Phuture Phillies 
Who do we think will be the first minor leaguers released because of mid-season assessments and the draft? I’m thinking Mitch Walding will head that list.
Some veteran MLB guys may go after June 1st if they are on minor league contract with the 60 day opt-out clauses if they do not get called up to the Phillies..Lane Adams, Gift Ngorpe or Shane Robinson all may be under that type of a contract.
Adam or Robinson going would pave the way for a Randolph or Haseley promo.
Randolph will have close to 600 PAs in double AA, plenty experience there, though with very mediocre results, but the Phillies may want to push him thru to clear space for others below him.
Do we feel that Boehm and Muzziotti will move to Reading this year?
Denny – If Bohm keeps hitting like he has, he could move up to Reading after the draft. I’m assuming that Walding will be released, and a Reading infielder moves up.
Austin Listi played 3b yesterday for Reading and we all thought he would be doing better. He can’t be promoted if Bohm is promoted with his current play. Let’s hope that AL gets hot then we can do a double promotion.
Listi does also play first and corner OFs at time…then there is the DH in the EL.
So there will be ABs available in the lineup.
Bohm has already moved up a level. Unless he looks like he’s not being challenged it is highly unlikely that he is promoted by early June. We shall see. Vierling is likely to be promoted before Bohm. More kudos for Maton – he’s a big riser this year.
And Muzziotti- Clearwater is the team with all the hitters this year.
Denny…I think Vierling goes before Muzziotti, and yes Bohm will get there this year it appears now.
Muzziotti is so Muong…only 20 years old, but man can he fly and play CF…could be rated best in the system, will have to see how he rates at the end of the year. Runs a little weird with the hand action down by his side , but he flies. He looks like Braves’ Inciarte running down gap balls.

Gowdy is on a pitch count this year as part of his 1st season back from TJ surgery per Jim.
Imo, so twiw, per stat lines and what I’ve read, he seems to be at least on schedule, if not ahead. Velo was promising, but control was an issue early on, but improving. Struggles seem to come from rust, and improving. I’d say his upside is on track. My two cents. Others may disagree. From an outside fans perspective, he is looking good for the 1st half the season.
