Clearwater Threshers Recap – 7/7/2018

The Clearwater Threshers (41-42) lost to Charlotte, 8-3.  McKenzie Mills (0-3, 3.79) labored without an effective CB but lasted six innings.  He gave up 4 runs on 6 hits and 4 walks.  Grant Dyer (5.23) gave up 4 runs in 1.1 innings on 5 hits including 3 HR.

Clearwater Threshers Recap – 7/6/2018

The Clearwater Threshers (41-41) lost to Charlotte, 6-4.  Mauricio Llovera (4.41) gave up 5 runs (3 ER) and 8 hits in 4.1 innings. He walked 3, struck out 3, and hit a batter.  Felix Paulino (3.68) pitched 2.1 innings and gave up a run on 3 hits and a walk.  Jake Hernandez (2.89) allowed one of two inherited runners to score but struck out two in 1.1 innings.  Addison Russ (3.38) pitched a scoreless inning. Clearwater Threshers Recap – 7/5/2018

The Clearwater Threshers (41-40) game against Tampa was postponed, rain.  

GCP Phillies East (6-5) beat the GCL Braves, 5-2.  Justin Miller (1.50) started and was charged with two unearned runs in five innings on 6 hits and 2 walks.  He struck out five. Daniel Vilchez (1-0, 0.00) got the win with two, three-hit innings and 3 strike outs.  Brian Auerbach (0.00) earned his first save with two shutout innings. Clearwater Threshers Recap – 7/4/2018

The Clearwater Threshers (41-40) lost to Tampa, 5-1.  Bailey Falter (5-4, 3.39) lasted four innings.  He gave up 2 runs on 7 hits and a walk.  He struck out five.  He was lifted after 77 pitches.  Blake Quinn (6.23) continued his dreary June/July with another clunker.  He has given up 16 ER in 11.1 innings in 8 appearances since the beginning of June.  Last night, he gave up 2 runs on 2 hits in 2.2 innings.  He did strike out three.  Kyle Dohy (2.57) allowed an inherited runner to score on a HR in 1.1 innings. Clearwater Threshers Recap – 7/3/2018

The Clearwater Threshers (41-39) beat Lakeland, 3-2, swept the 2-game series, and moved atop the FSL North, a half game ahead of Lakeland with a second half record of 9-3.

Alejandro Requena (1-1, 4.26) pitched five, two-hit innings.  He gave up a run, walked two, and struck out seven.  Alberto Tirado (2.61) pitched two, scoreless innings.  He struck out three and walked one as he needed 38 pitches to navigate the two innings.  Grant Dyer (2.00) gave up a run on 3 hits in one inning.  And, Addison Russ (3.86) struck out two in a perfect inning as he notched his first save. Spencer Howard, 21, Phils 2nd round pick in 2017; 13 starts, 4-7 with a 5.06ERA; 58.2IP 60H 20BB 76K; 1.36WHIP; 3.1BB/11.7K per 9; .223 vs LHH, .313 vs RHH, .306 opp avg with runners on base; Howard has thrown better than his 5.06ERA indicates but his work his runners on base really needs to improve for long term success.

Damon Jones, 23, Phils 18th round pick in 2017; 13 starts, 6-3 with a1.92ERA; 65.2IP 52H 33BB 71K; 1.29WHIP; 4.5BB/9.7K per 9; .236 vs LHH, .208 vs RHH, .182 opp avg with runners on base; Jones has had an excellent season thus far.  Need for improvement comes with the walk rate.

David Parkinson, 22, Phils 12th round pick in 2017; 13 starts, 6-1 with a 1.41ERA; 70IP 54H 23BB 84K; 1.10WHIP; 3.0BB/10.8K per 9; .325 vs LHH, .152 vs RHH, .206 opp avg with runners on base; Parkinson has been outstanding all season albeit with a need for improvement against lefties.

Will STewart, 21, Phils 20th round pick in 2015; 12 starts, 6-0 with a 1.17ERA; 76.2IP 55H 11BB 63K; 0.86WHIP; 1.3BB/7.4K per 9; .223 vs LHH, .184 vs RHH, .149 opp avg with runners on base.  Sheesh.

Kyle Young, 20, Phils 22nd round pick in 2016; 7 starts, 3-3 with a 2.68ERA; 43.2IP 36H 6BB 37K; 0.96WHIP; 1.2BB/7.6K per 9; .222 vs LHH, .229 vs RHH, .250 opp avg with runners on base; Young’s transition from WIlliamsport has been largely smooth with continued dominance most nights.

Ethan Lindow, 19, Phils 5th round pick in 2017; 3 starts, 0-0 with a 1.80ERA; 15IP 11H 4BB 9K; 1.00WHIP; Throwing well out of the gate for the Cutters

Francisco Morales, 18, SIgned as a free agent in 2017; 3 starts, 1-0 with a 3.75ERA; 12IP 9H 9BB 13K; 1.50 WHIP; Morales has to get his control “under control”.

Manuel SIlva, 19, SIgned as a free agent in 2016; 3 starts, 0-1 with a 2.40ERA; 15IP 12H 4BB 14K; 1.06WHIP; Didnt allow an ER in his first two starts and then a bit bumpy last outing.

Gustavo Armas, 22, Signed as a free agent in 2014; 2 starts; 1-1 with a 3.97ERA; 11.1IP 11H 0BB 9K.

Clearwater Threshers Recap – 7/2/2018

The Clearwater Threshers (40-39) beat Lakeland, 7-3.  Adonis Medina raised his record to 8-2 with six, five-hit innings.  He allowed 3 runs, walked a batter, hit a batter, and gave up back-to-back solo HRs.  He struck out nine.  Felix Paulino (3.67) relieved and had a strong, one-hit showing in two innings.  Jakob Hernandez (2.98) struck out two in his one inning. Cole Irvin, 24, Phils 5th round pick of 2016 draft; 16 starts, 8-3 with a 2.76ERA; 101IP 86H 19BB 87K; 1.04WHIP; 1.7BB/7.8K per 9; .192 vs LHH, .246 vs RHH, .214 opp avg with RISP; Irvin has been consistently excellent all season and should be on the verge on a big league call up.

Enyel De Los Santos, 22, Acquired from San Diego in 2017; 15 starts, 8-3 with a 1.91ERA; 89.1IP 68H 30BB 85K; 1.09WHIP; 3.0BB/8.6K per 9; .236 vs LHH, .189 vs RHH, .131 opp avg with runners on base; See Irvin but perhaps a notch better

Tom Eshelman, 24, Acquired from Houston in 2015; 15 starts, 1-7 with a 6.78ERA: 71.1IP  107H 21BB 51K; 1.87WHIP; 3.2BB/6.5K per 9; .373 vs LHH, .331 vs RHH, .365 opp avg with runners on base; Eshleman was probably the starter closest to a call up as the season began and has had just a miserable year.

Drew Anderson, 24, Phils 21st round pick in 2012; 9 starts; 5-2, 3.35ERA; 48.1IP 38H 12BB 40K; 1.03WHIP; 2.2BB/7.4K per 9; .231 vs LHH, .193 vs RHH, .194 opp avg with runners on base; Anderson has pitched largely very well after missing the first month plus injured.  Biggest issue is his health long term.  Averaging a touch of 5IP a start

Ranger Suarez, 22, Signed as a free agent in 2011; 13 starts between Reading and LV; 4-3 with a 2.71ERA; 79.2IP 72H 20BB 60K; 1.18WHIP; 2.5BB 6.8K per 9; .222 vs LHH, .252 vs RHH, .285 opp avg with runners on base; Suarez has thrown well earning his recent promotion to AAA.

Ben Lively, 26, Acquired from Reds in 2014; 8 starts, 2-2 with a 2.44ERA: 48IP 34H 15BB 42K; 1.02WHIP; 2.8BB/7.9K per 9; .263 vs LHH, .233 vs RHH, .292 opp avg with runners on base; Lively was with the Phils for several weeks and then sent down after several bumpy outings and a DL stint.  After throwing well for LV, Lively is back on the DL.

Reading

Harold Arauz, 23, Acquired from Dodgers in 2016; 16 starts, 5-4 with a 4.77ERA; 88.2IP 94H 32BB 72K; 1.42WHIP; 3.2BB/7.3K per 9; .294 vs LHH, .252 vs RHH, .326 opp avg with runners on base; Has been mediocre this season after a very good 2017.

JoJo Romero, 21, Phils 4th round pick in 2016; 16 starts, 6-6 with a 4.27ERA; 92.2IP 86H 35BB 88K; 1.30WHIP; 3.4BB/8.5K per 9; .225 vs LHH, .253 vs RHH, .247 opp avg with runners on base; AFter an abysmal April, ROmero has been throwing like we have expected as of late with a 3-2 record and a 3.25ERA in his last 6 starts.

Franklyn Kilome, 23, Signed as a free agent in 2013; 15 starts, 2-5 with a 4.91ERA; 77IP 77H 38BB 62K; 1.49WHIP; 4.4BB/7.2K per 9; .295 vs LHH, .237 vs RHH, .273 opp avg with runners on base; Kilome has fallen down significantly on the prospect chart with his command being his biggest issue.

Jacob Waguespack, 24, Signed as a free agent in 2015; 16 games (10 starts) between Lehigh Valley and Reading; 55.2IP 62H 26BB 57K; 1.58WHIP; 4.2BB/9,2K per 9; .279 vs LHH, .272 vs RHH, .339 opp avg with runners on base; Waguespack had been a spot starter and long innings guy until recently settling into the Reading rotation.

Connor Seabold, 22, Phils 3rd round pick in 2017; 13 starts between CLearwater and Reading; 4-5 with a 4.22ERA; 74.2IP 65H 16BB 71K; 1.08WHIP; 1.9BB/8.6K per 9; .236 vs LHH, .222 vs RHH, .274 opp avg with runners on base; Seabold was just recently promoted and made his first AA start which was bumpy.  That said, he has plenty of talent and projects as a 4-5 starter.

Elneiry Garcia, 23, SIgned as a free agent in 2012; 10 games (9 starts); 0-6 with a 6.38ERA; 42.1IP 60H 21BB 29K; 1.91WHIP; 4.5BB/6.2K per 9; .429 vs LHH, .288 vs RHH, .376 opp avg with runners on base; Has been just awful and is currently on the DL.

Clearwater

Adonis Medina, 21, Signed as a free agent in 2013; 13 starts, 7-2 with a 4.16ERA; 62.2IP 57H 24BB 63K; 1.29WHIP; 3.4BB/9.0K per 9; .248 vs LHH, .238 vs RHH, .280 opp avg with runners on base; STruggled through APril, but is 5-0 with a 3.00ERA since May 1. Sorry about yesterday’s Recap.  I forgot to hit Publish.  It was very brief any way, as I came home from the stadium unwell.  I couldn’t sit too long at the keyboard, but totally for got to hit the Publish button before retiring.  I’ve got the same problem tonight, but I’ll try to go into a little depth.  I’ll return to an expanded recap as soon as possible.
