The Pirates brought two teams to the Complex, so there were games on Ashburn and Schmidt Field. I watched the one on Ashburn because it has a scoreboard and offers better vantage points for observation. That didn’t matter much as Roy Halladay was on hand and I didn’t pay enough attention to the games.
June 2, 2017 at home v. the Pirates
The two Phillies teams had a mix of Williamsport players mixed with GCL players. Pat Borders team won 9-2.
Tom Windle started and pitched one inning. Roy Halladay was watching him from the bleachers. Afterward, They talked and Roy gave him some tips. Then they went to the bullpen together and Windle pitched under Halladay’s watchful eye.
I have to admit I was distracted and have only sketchy game notes.
Josh Stephens went 2-3 with a BB. He had an RBI single in the first inning. He grounded out to the first baseman in his second at bat. He walked his third at bat and eventually scored on a wild pitch. His final at bat he lined a single to center field.
Alex Wojciechowski hit a 2-run double in one at bat and a line drive single to center in another.
Jhailyn Ortiz absolutely crushed a 2-run HR to left that detached some palm fronds as it passed through the trees beyond the left field fence. in a later at bat, he launched a 2-run triple over the center fielder’s head. He drew a walk in another at bat.
Gustavo Armas and Julian Garcia pitched three innings each. Jhon Nunez pitched the final two.
On the other field, Zach Green walked and was hit by a pitch in the two at bats I saw. Cole Stobbbe reached on a throwing error by the third baseman and on a single to left field. The pitchers were Sobil or Silva followed by Marcelino, De Los Santos, and Robinson Martinez. I don’t know any more about this game.
I saw Seranthony Dominguez and congratulated him on his selection to the All Star Team. He said he’s just doing his rehab. No time table for his return.
