He was drafted again by the Pirates in the 32nd round of the 2015 MLB June Amateur Draft while at the University of Oregon and decided to return for his senior year. The move paid off as he was drafted again, this time by the Phillies in the 5th round of the 2016 MLB June Amateur Draft out of the University of Oregon. He signed on June 23rd and was assigned to Williamsport on July 1st.
Irvin excelled in the age appropriate NY-Penn League. He appeared in 10 games and started seven. He posted a 5-1 record and a 1.97 ERA in 45.2 innings. He had a 0.964 WHIP, 1.6 BB/9, and 7.3 K/9.
Irvin had similar metrics in 105.0 innings during his senior season at Oregon – 1.11 WHIP, 1.58 BB/9, and 7.97 K/9.
The left-handed pitcher was reported to have a low 90s fastball and a mid 80s slider while in Williamsport.
