Just before Thanksgiving, the Phillies released David Buchanan and traded Jimmy Cordero to the Nationals for cash considerations or a PTBNL.  They also signed a couple international free agents, RHP Victor Santos and OF Wilbert Garcia.  They assigned LHP Anton Mikhailovich Kuznetsov to the DSL Phillies.  Kuznetsov was signed back on September 8th and is from Moscow. Open Discussion: Week of November 21st

Here’s the open discussion thread for Phillies’ talk and other topics.

The Phillies had a busy week culminating in the submission of their 40-man roster before this past Friday’s 8:00 PM deadline.  First, early in the week and to the surprise and possible annoyance of a lot of fans, Jeremy Hellickson accepted the Phillies’ qualifying offer. Then the Phillies outrighted Elvis Araujo, David Buchanan, and Jimmy Cordero. Only then did the Phillies add 11 prospects to the 40-man roster. Hellickson Accepts Qualifying Offer

In what will come as a surprise for many Phillies’ fans, RHP Jeremy Hellickson has accepted the team’s $17.2M Qualifying Offer.

Open Discussion: Week of November 14th

Here’s the open discussion thread for Phillies’ talk and other topics.

The 40-Man Roster stands at 33 players.  Andres Blanco, Peter Bourjos, A.J. Ellis, and David Hernandez elected free agency.  Jeremy Hellickson has neither accepted nor declined the Qualifying Offer.  His deadline is 5:00 PM Monday.  If he declines, he becomes a free agent.

Phillies Set Managerial Corps for 2017

Earlier today, the Phillies announced the 2017 managerial assignments for the organization’s stateside affiliates.

Dusty Wathan will take over Lehigh Valley.  Greg Legg will take over Wathan’s spot in Reading.  Shawn Williams will move into Legg’s Clearwater position.  Marty Malloy was hired to manage Lakewood.  The former infielder most recently managed in the Houston system from 2014-15.
