Today is Opening Day if you didn’t realize. I thought I would break down the opening day 40 man roster into some fun graphs, on player acquisition. I chose to use the 40 man roster so that I could encompass a team with a lot of DL spots used and plenty of flex in its roster.
So lets start off with where each of the players came from. This is how they first came into major league baseball, regardless of how the Phillies acquired them.
It is really easy to see the value of first round picks at a glance. More fun is how many low round picks are on this team. Many are in the bullpen, but others scattered across the roster.
Now onto a more simple graph. This how the Phillies acquired each player.
Given the influence of the 40 man roster the amount of traded is not too surprising.
The last graph is my favorite. It id the resources used to acquire the members of the roster. What this means is that Brad Lincoln, cost Erik Kratz (MiLB FA) and Rob Rasmussen (trade), Rasmussen cost Michael Young, who cost Josh Lindblom (Shane Victorino) and Lialverto Bonilla (Int FA), and Victorino was a Rule 5 pick. I do not double count so Ethan Martin is lumped into the same transaction. Yes this means Tommy Joseph has a large haul behind him. Cliff Lee in this case was acquired as a FA (though Aumont/Gillies have the whole trade behind them), but I put him as costing a 1st Round pick in FA compensation.
Not a lot of analysis here, but just fun to see how things have shaped up. Enjoy picking out individual players on the list.

Will any of this information be on the final?

Great research. My only question would be, of the nine players on the 40 man roster who were 1st round picks, are any still there because they were first round picks and should have been released already?

The 9 first round picks are: Aumont, Hamels, Lincoln, Martin, Nix, Utley, Collier, Mayberry, and Revere
Of that group the only one getting anything because they were a 1st round pick is Collier (and for him it is not just about the pick either). The rest it is about their now talent, not when they were picked.
