I understand that Hewitt has to have a strong August in order to stay in the organization. 13 bombs. Brownie in a little slump. Picked up an error as well. Rivero already with two errors.
which is why I think he stays a reliever. He can move much quicker through the system with 2 plus pitches. I could see him as a 2014 ETA at the latest if he pitches to his talent.
Absolutely electric stuff tonight. Obviously no gun in Bowman Field but I havent seen anyone throw as hard as him this year out of the Cutters’ pen. I’d guess 93-94 but with no basis for that guess other than comparisons. Good breaking that he could throw for a get-me-over strike or bury in the dirt for a strikeout. Gave up a run but it was his own doing when a bad pickoff throw let a runner go from first to third.
Nesseth had no command tonight and said as much. Just one of those nights. Mickey Morandini did say he’s looked fatigued coming off Tommy John and they’re probably going to limit his innings over the final month. I’m not worried about him, he’s been too consistent and it’s going to take more than one bad start for me to sour on Nesseth.
I don’t think we’ll be in dire need of relievers any time soon with the guys we already have. Why not let Garner work on developing a couple average pitches to complement his fastball and curve and see if he can stick as a starter before limiting him to the pen?
He needs innings. Lots of them. He should be a starter next year to see if he can develop a starter’s mix of pitches. Lots of time to make him a reliever later on.
Totally agree. He has the body to be an SP. Let’s give him a lot of chances to start. I think being a fast-moving reliever is a nice fall-back to have.
Two hits Pointer, that’s nice.
Good game for Hudson. Strong appearance for Garner.
Decent start for Pettibone. Bit high on the hits, but none for extra bases and good K/BB.
JC Ramirez…blargh.
Good hitting for Overbeck, decent for Galvis.
Bad night for the minor league teams. Pettibone does not get any run support. He is 8-10 but ERA is 3.14. Wait till Rodriguez pitches and Clearwater scores 5 or 6 runs. Aumont with a tough appearence. Just when you hear talk about a call-up for him. Nice to see Garner getting some innings. Saw on another site talk about Gillies done for regular season but plan is for him to go to AFL.
The bad Josh Warner showed up for the game today. Consistency has been a major problem but he’s a guy I’m watching closely in the box scores. I’d love to see a scouting report on him.
Just in case it isn’t clear, 2nd GCL game omitted. 1st game only 7 innings should have been a tip-off. Tyler Greene 2-3 with a stolen base. Could be the limit of interest for some Mediocre pitching appearances by Steven Inch, and Luis Gonzalez. Chance Chapman on Re-Hab started in GCL game.
1st Game GCL- Numata appears first time in season. Carlos Valenzuela appears to hit for the season, up at ,329 still, will he be supplanted by some new signees before end of season? Seems they could shift a new IF(if there are any) to 1B temporarily, since they seem to have little there now. With some projected signings : T. Greene 3B, Pletsch SS, Valenzuela 2B, Walding 1B, L. Greene RF, Quinn CF, Garvey LF, Pointer can be DH. Or Pointer in CF, Quinn at 2B, and Valenzuela at DH. With those projected signings, and some working in time they could ease then in a bit, activate for the last few games of the season, then see what they have for Instructional League. Oh yeah, Catcher- new signee (who knows who) or the non-descript or Numata can bounce back.
I dont gey why this is news. I mean not just you but everyone is oing vrazy over him gettin upset at balls and strikes whereas every other player does that.
AT 19, he is number one ranked minor league position player by many forums. And acts un-accordingly. Maybe the most unprofessional 19-year old to EVER play pro ball drafted that high.
Due to the “Awaiting moderation” tag, I’ll rephrase as such:
If I remember correctly, the pitcher called him a “f*****g f*****t” or something like that before that at bat started. His response was measured in my opinion.
JoeDe…the pitcher went with the motherf***** moniker before he threw the pitch that Harper crushed. All things considered, Harper acted very accordingly and could’ve done many worse things. He is just ostracized because he is the “next big thing.”
Maybe the most over watched, over criticized 19 year old to ever play pro-ball. Seriously, imagine yourself at 19. You are really good at what you do. And you have to deal with people constantly messing with you because you are better than them. How would you react at 19? Me? Not well.
No he’s not a punk. Living in the hbg area he’s been widely covered since he players for the Hbg senators. Fact of the matter is that he’s immature, not surprising for a 19 year-old who’s constantly fawned over.

Truth is that as the big fish in the pond, he’s a target of fans and opponents alike and has had only a couple of incidents that have been publicized.
