  1. Could there be a Cesar Hernandez-Galvis middle infield in the Phillies future? With Galvis picking up the bulk and Cesar the filling the whole package it could be in two to three years.

  2. I like it. A loss of power from what we currently have, but good speed and defense. You would get power from your traditional power positions- at the corners of the infield and the outfield.

  3. Don’t forget Harold Garcia, who is the best 2nd base prospect in the system and is out for the year.

  4. Next year Garcia will be a 25 year old coming off a major injury, who hasn’t made it to Triple A yet. We’ll all be rooting for him, but with Hernandez and Asche around, we can’t call him our best 2nd base prospect anymore. Too bad about the injury- I hoped Garcia could maybe even push for the 25th roster spot by the end of the year.

If we sign some of the high schoolers, we’ll have to be happy with the progress made in this area in 2011. Galvis took a major step forward, Hernandez solidified his prospect status, Asche successfully turned pro playing a position where his bat is plus and hopefully at least one of Quinn, Walding or Greene will be taking grounders at SS by the end of the year….

    1. It’s good Hernandez has been hitting well the past several weeks, but his overall numbers are poor (.616 OPS). He is a 21-YO in high-A, so there is more time to develop, and that’s likely what is happening right now. It might be overstating things to say he has solidified his prospect status, but at least we can say he still is a prospect.

      1. Eh, Hernandez’s overall numbers are mostly dragged down by an atrocious April, though. Since then he’s approaching/around a .700 OPS as a 2B in a pitchers’ league, which isn’t bad.

  5. Galvis should get that AAA promotion. Rollins isn’t gauranteed to be back next year so Galvis could be a longshot to make team as replacement or in a platoon.

  6. Galvis: I don’t see him play, just what I read here is all I know. I wonder does he really have plus plus defense for the ML? Is his increase with the bat for realsies? Anyone who watches him can discuss this? I love it when we’re able to develop our own guys, and as bob says there’s no gaurantee Rollins will be back (he’ll likely get better offers elsewhere, so unless he takes a home town discount…)

    1. I posted earlier on Freddy—is he really 5’10” in height? I know next to Rizz, Mitch and Rivero he is dwarfed, but he shouldn’t be that much shorter then Paco F.! I guess as you get older your eyes go.
