Injury Update

–Todd Zolecki of MLB.com is reporting that Jason Donald will undergo surgery on Monday to repair a torn meniscus.  He is expected to miss 3-4 weeks.

Lou Marson was placed on the DL on Friday with a right ankle contusion after taking a foul ball off his ankle Thursday night. He should be back after missing the 7 day minor league minimum.

  1. im not getting into a flame war here due to the respect i have for greg, pp, and all the guys that put their time into this site…but john/nowheels, maybe posters might want to be able to post a comment to greg about donald or marson without having to sift thru a novel of all UNRELATED POSTS…And you do that alot(hijacking threads ) to post whatever you want that has no relevance to the original post…And please dont question what type of fan i am, because i dont hijack threads on injury status to our prospects to post every starting pitcher this centurys walk to k rate..thanks

  2. Thanks for the update, Gregg. I’d be curious if the meniscus tear for Donald is new or if his knee has been bothering him for a while. My apologies for posting the question if there was a specific event that caused the tear, but that’s not readily apparent to me (he played every game from 6/4-6/11). If it’s the case that he’s had it for a while, that goes a long way towards explaining the difficulties he’s had. If he hasn’t had it for a while…nevermind.

  3. There we go, I cleaned up the comments here. If you guys want to talk about Jon Lester, try a Red Sox message board. I don’t know how many times I have to say it. Show some respect to the people who spend their time writing and passing along information on this site.

  4. thanks for the report greg..dam Dom brown, marson, and donald…not the ones we would want to be on the dl…guess should be happy none were really bad injuries…Greg was just wanting to get ur view on who would you select from LV as a pich hitter type…I was a bit surprised to see bako get the call with 2 healthy catchers on the ml roster….I know u dont blow options with legit prospects just for short stints with the big club, i was wondering who you feel would be the best bet for the phils to get the nod…there has to be someone better for that spot than bako, unless he was recalled for a different reason..thanks

  5. First of all, thank James for cleaning up the comments. It gets extremely frustrating to spend time writing something that I believe of some consequence and then a few take over the Comment section writing about something irrelevant to the post. Answering the couple of questions that have been asked here..Boston– It was his hamstring last time, and I believe the opposite leg, although I will double check when I am at the game tomorrow. I spoke with DOnald briefly just as he was about to return from the hammy, and he was VERY frustrated at the time his missed, and chomping at the bit to get back. He had an MRI done and received medical clearance that everything was clear regarding the hamstring. Ill see what I can get tomorrow. EZ E–As far as Bako goes, I think he was recalled to give the Phils the ability to use Coste as a PH, and Bako is very good defensively. The options right now are really limited in the Valley for a variety of reasons. The Phils clearly want Mayberry to play consistenly, Donald and Ozuna are out of the picture right now (for very different reasons). Both Andy Tracy and David Newhan are lefties. Mike Cervenak is just off the DL and trying to work his wrist back into game shape. That basically leaves Miguel Cairo as your only other legit option. He has been very hot since he came down, but the Phils may feel as if they have been there and done that, and have more of a shot in the late innings with Coste as their righty off the bench.

  8. I saw Marson take that ball off his ankle and didn’t think anything of it. He seemed to shake it off after a min. Hope it doesn’t linger for him. Donald is a surprise though… I wonder if he’s been playing with the injury?

  9. I was suprirsed about Marson too…he finished that game. AN educated guess would be that Donald has been playing with the injury.

  11. I’m actually happy that Donald will geta few weeks to rest. I’ve seen him play a few times the last few years between spring training and Reading and I then saw him play for the pigs a few weeks ago and he was like a different player. He had terrible at bats swinging at bad balls and swinging with nothing but arms. I’m hoping that the forced rest with give him a chance to relax and he’ll come back playing like he always has in the past.

  12. By the way, I was a big Lou supporter, but he and Donald are really hurting the Phil’s trading position. Thank god for Taylor and Dominic Brown as well as the pitchers, or else we couldn’t think of a deadline pitching deal this year. I still believe Marson can be a ML starter somewhere and I know Donald can excel if given the chance (albeit not in Philly).
