Swamped

I’m under the kosh here at work today. My goal is to put up my Top 30 prospect list on Monday. I’ve decided I’m not going to bother posting every team’s Top 30 here, enough people expressed they wouldn’t want to see that, so I can just give my Phillies list, my thoughts on each spot, and then maybe at some point I’ll compare our system to the other four teams in our division, and also do positional rankings. So, check back Monday for that.

  1. Could you just clear up something for me, if a team ranked 16th in wins or worse signs Rowand, we only get a sandwich pick and their 2nd round pick? In order to get a 1st round pick the team has to be in the top 15?

  2. I feel your pain…sorry I’ve been pretty inactive in the off-season. It’s the slow time in the ice cream biz, and I work a lot more because I can’t pay others to do it.

I picked a good sport to enjoy based on my availability.

  3. Gkit,

If the team that signs Rowand picks in the first 15 spots in the draft, we’d get their 2nd round pick, plus a compensation pick, which would actually be higher than the 2nd rounder, obviously. If the team that signs him is in the 16-30 range, we get their first round pick, plus the compensation pick. The only way this changes is if a team signs more than one Type A free agent, and that player ends up with a higher Elias ranking than Rowand. In that case, we’d get the 2nd (or 3rd) round pick.

  4. I read on someone else’s blog that their is an actual limit to how many type A and B free agents a team can sign. Is this true? I am sure that it is high like 7-10 so the probability of some team signing a ton of free agents is very rare but still never thought their was a limit.
