Darren Byrd won the vote yesterday for the 31st spot on the list, and with everyone else moving up 1 spot, he becomes the 30th prospect on the list. I wanted to again thank everyone who came here every day and voted during the process. I hope you guys stick around and become more active in the comments section of new posts, because discussion and discourse is what this site is all about. If you still want to share your personal top 30, just send an email to phuturephillies at hotmail dot com and give me your list in order. I’ll collect all of the lists and post the results sometime in the next week or two.
I also wanted to give a little update on my personal prospect rankings. As I’ve mentioned in the past, I’ve spent a considerable amount of time working on a system to evaluate prospects, both as a tool for comparison and a way to come up with rudimentary predictions for future success/failure. The actual design of the formula wasn’t too tough, but importing the data for 700 players takes a lot of time, and I’m really only about 50% done at this point. I want to make sure that it’s complete and ready to go before I start discussing my findings, so my own personal Top 30 is going to be delayed for a little while.
In conjunction with the above paragraph, I have a question. Would it be interesting for you guys to see my lists of Top 30 prospects for every other team in baseball after I give my Phillies list, as well as positional rankings and overall team rankings? I ask because I’ve debated starting another blog devoted to all of the minors, but at the same time I realize there isn’t a whole lot of Phillies news in the offseason, and I could probably just discuss the lists here. If you guys have no interest in reading about that stuff, then I might have to go about setting up another blog for that purpose. Just wanted some feedback on that.
Next week, I wanted to start working on guesses as to where prospects will start 2008, starting with 3A and working our way down. So, start thinking about that and we’ll get started on Monday or Tuesday.
Phuture. Here’s my question of the day. With all the work you’re doing on these blogs, how do you make a living?
Anyway, during the winter “off” months, I would love to get info on the other minor league systems. I was just thinking recently about how little I know about the farm system universe other than our own little patch of the farm.

Yes, your comparison of all the farms and prospects of all the minor league top prospects at a given position would be interesting, add perspective to our discussion of the top Phillies prospects, and be certain to spur a lot of discussion over the cold winter months. It is very easy to look at the Phillies system in isolation and say a guy like Costanzo has done this or that or the Phillies have 6 good pitching prospects or 5 good foreign prospects, while ignoring whether this is good, bad, or indifferent compared to the prospects in other organizations. Also interesting to see how your overall evaluation system, which is more performance based than BA’s, compares with the BA rankings.

Seeing other teams evaluated next to our own farm system would just be depressing!!! Honestly, there are a lot of prospect web-sites out there and this one is so valuable because it goes into way more detail on our one beloved team. Feel free to do what you like but I would ask that you not spend any less time on the Phils. Thanks for this site though. I love it and visit it every day.

I think this is a great site because its devoted to the minors system of the phillies. However, I think it would really be great to have you evaluate other teams farm systems as it could give us some much needed perspective on our own prospects. But i just hope it would never take away from the depth in which you cover the phillies farm system cause thats what seperates this site from others out there.

Love the idea. Graduated with some friends who were drafted in to different systems and try to follow them. Also I love th way the Twins and As and Angles turn out awesome prospects and seeing how they progress would be cool.
I was also wondering how our prospects we traded over the past few yrs are doing. We all know about Floyd and Gio but what about all those trades with the Reds and the 2 pitchers we gave up to get Moyer.
Anyways great job can’t wait to see your list.
PS- BA’s top 10 Phill’s list will be available next week.

I’d like to see more details on the teams in our division.

It’d be great to read your thoughts on other teams’ prospects; however, I would go ahead and create a separate site to do it (if it isn’t too much trouble on your end). While it would certainly be useful to compare farm systems on this site, I think it would take away from Phillies related coverage, particularly during the season. I say create a separate blog with links to it on this site. This will allow you to go into much greater detail on every teams’ prospects without sacrificing anything on the Phillies end.

Curious how are prospects stack up with other teams ?

I like to check on the prospects as they compete in winter and international ball to see how they stack up to other players in more challenging conditions. Seems like Jaramillo (Team USA), Gosewisch (Saguaros), Harman (Team Aussie) and Monasterios (VWL) and Savery (Saguaros) have been able to step it up several notches to the top of their respective competitions so far this Fall.

My original idea was just to give my top 30s and position rankings here because there isn’t a whole lot of Phillies news. Maybe do 2 teams a day, 3 times a week until we finish them. I’ll always prioritize Phillies news, it’s a Phillies blog, but there isn’t a whole lot to discuss after the AFL ends and spring training starts.

I’d like to see some information on other teams, but have this remain a site dedicated to the Phillies.
