Well folks, this is the end of the line. Matt Spencer took spot #29 yesterday, which means we only have one spot left, and still a number of interesting prospects left to choose from. We’ll finish up today, then we’ll figure out where we go from here tomorrow. So, get in and have your voice heard for the last time on the Reader Top 30.

And here’s a reminder for the eligibilty

For the purpose of this poll, consider “eligibility” to be less than 50 AB/25 games for a position player, and less than 25 IP/20 games as a pitcher.

So, here is where a few other guys stand

Mathieson: 37 IP. Not eligible
Zagurski: 25 G. Not eligible

  1. Justin DeFratus.

Justin, 6’4″, 215lbs, just turned 20 this October. In the GCL he struck out 34 and walked only 3 with a WHIP of 1.17. Very impressive.

  2. Matt German: 6′ 8″ 240; 1.54 ERA; 7 Saves in 15 games @ WPT; 46 Ks in 35 innings. Might be old at 23 but giant reliever, who can sling it, gets my vote.

  3. Miguel Matos. Solid GCL year at age 19. Projectible frame at 6’4″ 178. Overholt would be my second choice here. His stats took a hit when starting and being moved to Reading a little too quickly. That being said, I think he will be good once again at Reading as a reliever next year. Brauer needs to be healthy to top these other prospects though he has potential. Mach needs to play well after a double jump next year to make the top 30.

  4. Its either Mach or Brauer but I think Schlitter is the next guy to wear a phillies uni and could be a sold BP/Setup/Closer guy.

  5. It’s a jump ball for me between Byrd (whom I voted for earlier) and Monasterios. Let the record indicate I voted for Monasterios, though it seems like neither guy is going to win this final spot.

  6. I agree w/ the “x-factor” on this one.
DeFratus’s 3 walks in about 50+ inning is outstanding. K’s to IP could be lil better but he still young & learning.

  7. Matt German? geez, the guy throws 82mph!
I guess I won’t be upset by Mach after another season, but i just expect him to pan out like Clay Harris. Gimmee Byrd- though I feel like a team official more intimate with the players ability would have put Matos up on this list a long time ago.

  8. FYI to any and all. I’m looking to pass some of the time in the offseason, so I’m running a simulation to see what could have happened had McClelland called Holliday out at the plate in the Padres/Rockies 163rd game.

As a disclaimer, I’m not saying this is would would have or should have happened, just passing the time.

Fast forward a bit, the Padres beat the Rockies but lose in the NLDS to the Phillies. I’m now continuing from that point, with the Phillies in the NLCS vs. Arizona.

Stop by and enjoy, or don’t.

  9. Dan Brauer but it seems strange to me that Patrick Overholt got such little recognition when he has been so fast tracked through the organization. This year he might be heard from as a reliever prospect
