Just saw the list at Baseball America, no real surprises, but felt I’d pass it along. I think they might try and bring back guys like Burnham and Brito, but we’ll see.
Righthanders: Ryan Cameron, Matt Childers, Julio de la Cruz, Landon Jacobsen, Gary Knotts, Tim McClaskey, Bubba Nelson, Chris Rojas, Brian Sanches, Heath Totten, Charles Weatherby, Jason Wylie
Lefthanders: Eude Brito, Allen Davis, Chris Key, Luis Villarreal, Cory Willey
Catchers: Jason Hill, Dusty Wathan
First basemen: Gary Burnham, John Urick
Second basemen: Carlos Leon, Peeter Ramos
Third basemen: Joey Hammond, Brennan King
Shortstops: Gookie Dawkins, Danny Sandoval
Outfielders: Shaun Boyd, Nic Jackson, Greg Jacobs, Matt Padgett, Jim Rushford, Pedro Swann
The Phillies had one of the highest numbers of 6 yr MiL FAs- reflecting the lack of prospect depth in the system. I would probably bring back: de la Cruz, Nelson, Ramos, King, Padgett, Jacobs and, if Jaramillo makes the Phillies, Hill.
I just hope that the need for these type of players decreases due to increased quality of our farm system.

Please please bring back Greg Jacobs. Look at his stats and you gotta believe he can play. I know he’s 31, but if the guy is producing, the upper management should think about giving him a shot in the major league level. I’m refraining from saying “the next Chris Coste” because that term has gotten thrown around way way way too much since his arrival in the bigs. I will say that he has had a very good career in the minors and his stats are not prohibiting him from getting a shot. He’s hit over .300 in 5 of his 6 seasons in minor league ball. Here are his last two years:
’06– .333 BA, 15 HR, 64 RBI, 111 hits, 46 XBH, .444 OBP, .571 Slugging, 57 BB
’07– .310 BA, 21 HR, 83 RBI, 143 hits, 62 XBH, .377 OBP, .539 Slugging, 43 BB
He doesn’t strike out much, and has some pop in his bat despite his 5’9 195 lb frame. He’s also left-handed, so he could be the bat the Phils are lookin for in the system. From what I’ve read, he’s a great guy too. A few seasons back, when he was in the Mariners minor league system, his grandparents both were terminally ill, but he kept playing despite his grief in order to try to fulfill their wish for Greg to play in the MLB. The highest he got to was AAA for the Mariners, then the Phils signed him after he took a year off and had those two spectacular seasons for us. Let the guy get some time to see what he can do. I’d say the same thing for Burnham, but he gets more publicity (as much you can get for being a career minor leaguer) than Jacobs does. On a side note, he started his career as a pitcher then made the switch to becoming an OF, with some 1B playing ability as well. Give him a shot.

I wish all of these guys good luck whatever the Phillies decide. Pedro Swann, at 37, is having a great minor league career. It takes guts to play so long after they stopped calling you a prospect. Bravo.
