Crosscutters game report

I noticed this comment needed my approval because of the links attached, but it really deserves its own discussion because of the length and quality of the report. Reader “Jslasher88” was kind enough to type out a long report from his recent trip to see the Crosscutters in action. I hope he’s okay with me bringing his report to the top of the site. Check below.

Update —> Bumped to the top for Jslasher’s 2nd review, which I’ve added to the original post.

Lakewood Weekly Report (7/19-7/25)

Recap:  Lakewood went 3-3 on the week, leaving their record at 18-11 for the second half, still 1.5 games ahead of Hickory in the SAL North.  The week featured an 18-inning marathon the ‘Claws won on Saturday behind excellent starting pitching from Jonathan Pettibone and very strong relief work from a quartet of hurlers.  The outcome left Lakewood at 11-4 in extra innings this year.  In personnel moves, Adam Buschini (finger) and Leandro Castro (oblique) were placed on the DL this week.  Also, some conflicting reports on Jarred Cosart–per the Asbury Park Press, Steve Noworyta stated it’s possible Cosart is done for the year and won’t pitch again until Instructional League, however in a scout.com article, Gorman Heimueller says he’ll start throwing around August 1st and the headline leads one to believe he could be back before season’s end. Michael Schwimer Interview

Michael Schwimer was kind enough to give me a few minutes of his time prior to the Lehigh Valley game on Sunday evening, one day after he pitched 2.2 scoreless against Norfolk, extending his scoreless to streak to six outings since his promotion from AA Reading.  Here is what he had to say about a number of issues…

On his most recent outing..” I felt good…pitches were good, the fastball had good late life, the slider was biting pretty good, my change I could throw whenever I wanted to, late in counts and had a good tail.  Important for me on the change up is the location rather than the movement…I throw a four seam change so it comes out like a four seam fastball…I go for location and I go for speed differentiation.” Continue reading Michael Schwimer Interview →

‘Pigs Weekend Report

A look at the Lehigh Valley weekend, transactions, probables and notes, with Lehigh Valley on top in 6 of their last 7 games.

Friday–A pretty ugly loss to Norfolk as Lehigh Valley was coming off an 8 game road trip, very long travel day and two rain delays in their 8-3 defeat at the hands of the Tides.  Homers by Josh Bell and Brandon Snyder gave Norfolk a 3-0 lead off of ‘Pigs starter Brian Mazone (5-11) who was less than sharp yielding 3 runs on 10 hits in his 5 innings of work.  A three run homer by Michael Aubrey in the 6th off of Oscar Villarreal put the game out of reach at 6-0. Lehigh Valley managed a few late runs on Domonic Brown’s 5th homer as an IronPig, a two run shot and an RBI double by Andy Tracy. Brown, Tracy and Chris Duffy all had two hits for Lehigh Valley. The recent struggles of reliever Mike Zagurski continued as he gave up 2 runs in his 0.2 innings of work. Continue reading ‘Pigs Weekend Report →

Sunday mailbag

I was hoping to write a longer post today, but due to some extenuating circumstances I haven’t had the time to do the research needed. That said, I did receive a few emails, so I’ll answer those below the fold. Thanks to those of you who submitted questions.

Mike Bolsenbroek, 23, 8 games, 0-0 with a 2.84 ERA; 12.2 IP 15H 7BB 9K, 1.00 GO/AO; .306 opp. avg. 42nd round pick in the ’08 draft hasn’t been great and hasn’t been horrible. Continue reading Around the System, Relief Pitchers , Bottom Half →
