Williamsport and GCL Weekly Report

It’s that time of year again, so let’s get right to it.

Williamsport : 5-4, 1 GB in the NYPL Pinckney division

Williamsport beats State College 15-2

Leandro Castro got the year off on the right note by going 5-6 with a HR, 2 RBI and 2 R. TJ Warren also had a big night going 3-5 with a 2B, 3B, 3 RBI and 3 R. Catcher Jean Rodriguez was 3-5 with 2 RBI and a R while Francisco Murillo added two doubles and 3 RBI. Hewitt started the season with a 1/4 night that included an RBI, R and 2 Ks. Siulman Lebron got the win in his first start stateside. The 22 year old righty went 5.2 innings, allowing 2 ER on 6 H and 1 BB while striking out 6. Massingham, Long and Grieve went the rest of the way without allowing a hit.

Affiliate Review: Williamsport

Today we’ll continue the review of the Phillies affiliates in 2008 with a stop in Williamsport. As with the GCL review, I want to hit on 5 key performances both on the offensive side and the pitching side and then maybe a few quick hits. Someone had mentioned in the GCL review a question about DICE and what it was. To get the full info, just read this. Its not accurate to assume that you can compare all ERA’s on one team and say that they are adjusted for defense because all the pitchers played in front of the same defense. DICE just eliminates this blip because its defense-independent. It makes it easier to compare players on different teams as well, which is really one of the biggest benefits of prospect evaluation and using a system like I’ve developed. So anyway, onto the review.

Williamsport Weekly Report (9/1-9/7)

The Crosscutters were the final affiliate to end their season and they did so by going 3-4 this past week. After winning the first three games, they dropped their final four to end the season at 38-37, tied for third place in the NYP Pinckney division, 8.5 GB of Batavia and Jamestown.

Williamsport

The Crosscutters went 4-3 this week to move to 35-33 on the season. That leaves them in fourth place in the NYP Pinckney division, 7 GB of first place Batavia and 1/2 GB of third place Auburn. They have one more week left on their schedule.

The Crosscutters finished the week 2-2 after having the first three days off for the All-Star Break. They remain one game over .500 at 31-30, which leaves them in a tie for third place in the NYP Pinckney division, 7.5 GB of Batavia.
