End of Season Review–Middle Infield

A last look at the Middle Infield in 2010, how they fared and what to expect.  Next up: Catchers on Monday.

Lehigh Valley

Brian Bocock, 25, 380 AB’s; .226/.313/.303 with 4 HR and 31 RBI’s; 13/19 SB; .277 vs. LH, .212 vs. RH, .224 with RISP; .288 Post All Star; 11% bb rate, 21% k rate. 12 Errors in 119 games at SS (.977); 4.23 R/F. During the beginning of the season, Bocock looked completely lost at the plate.  He has improved dramatically throughout the season.  While I can’t imagine he is going to hit any more than.240 at any time, his defense is phenomenal and saves a ton of runs up the middle.  Mid season I could never could have imagined saying this, but I hope to see Bocock back in 2011. End of Season Review–Corner Infield

A look at the Corners Infielders in the Phils system in 2010, what they did, and what we can expect in 2011. Next up: Middle Infield most likely over the weekend.

Lehigh Valley

Andy Tracy, 36, 425 AB’s; .275/.373/.492 with 21 HR and 80 RBI; 2/3 SB; .286 vs. LH, .272 vs. RH, .247 post all star break; .263 with RISP. 14% bb rate, 23% k rate. 6 errors in 87 games at 1B (.992), 8.38 R/F.  Tracy has been a mainstay in Allentown since the inception of the Lehigh Valley franchise, however the combination of injuries and the emergence of Matt Rizzotti most likely will lead to Tracy’s off season departure.  Even with a banged up shoulder for most of the season, Tracy put up very good numbers, continues to give you a very good at bat, and can only help a team with his attitude. Vance Worley live game log

Hi all. I figured that it would be interesting to do a live blog of Vance Worley’s start today, his first MLB start. We got a very brief glimpse of Worley a while back, as he pitched 1 inning in relief, but we’ll get a chance to see more of what he can do today in his first big league start. Worley has been solid this season at AA/AAA, logging 158 IP with a 3.36 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP. His 6.78 K/9 isn’t eye opening, but its passable, and he’s limited his walks, with a solid 2.62 BB/9 rate. Check below the fold to find out what I’ll be watching for.

Austin Hyatt named FSL Pitcher of the Year

Former Clearwater Thresher, now Reading Phillie Austin Hyatt has been named the Florida State League Pitcher of the Year.  Hyatt, 24, was a 15th round pick in the 2009 draft and threw in 23 games for the Threshers this year (21 starts).  He went 11-5 with a 3.04 ERA in 124.1 innings of work, walking 35 while striking out 156 hitters.  His WHIP stood at 1.08 in High A, while the opposition hit just .220 against him.  Hyatt recently made the jump to Reading and has started 4 games for the RPhils, going 1-0 with a 4.91 ERA in 22 innings.  He is continuing to strike hitters out at a very high rate (25 in 22 innings in AA). Flying a bit under the radar screen because of his advanced age for High A, the numbers have caused more than a few people to take notice as the year progressed.

August 25th Discussion

Short on time and resources today, but wanted to open a new post to discuss anything on your mind with regard to Phillies prospects. I didn’t even have time to look at last night’s box scores, if there were any. If someone wants to edit this post with box scores, that would be fantastic. Thanks

August 24th Discussion

Get your box scores right here.

GCL Phillies cancelled
Williamsport postponed
Lakewood postponed
Clearwater cancelled
Reading won 6-4.
Lehigh Valley won 7-0

* The weather sucks
* I’m on the Harold Garcia bandwagon
* Justin De Fratus has been awesome at Reading. Every time he pitches well, I feel pretty great, as I started that bandwagon waaaaay back when. I think he is in the majors next year, and the Phillies damn well better protect him this winter.
* Overbeck with an .881 OPS in 58 August AB, which is something, but not much (small sample size, obv)

Go!
