Phuture Phillies 2020 Reader Top 30 Poll for the Phillies #10 Prospect

2020 Reader Top 30

Adonis Medina was selected as the organization’s #9 prospect.  He received 108 of the 171 votes cast (63%).  Luis Garcia and JoJo Romero tied for second with 11 votes each (6%).

Simon Muzziotti received 7 votes.  “Other” received 6 votes.  Mauricio Llovera and Kevin Gowdy received 5 votes each.  Raphael Marchan received 4 votes.  Nick Maton, Jhailyn Ortiz, and Damon Jones received 3 votes each.  Logan O’Hoppe and Enyel De Los Santos received 2 votes each.  Juan Aparicio received one vote.

The six “Other” votes were cast for – Rojas, Grullon, Parkinson, Russ, Stephen, and Stephens.

Let me point out that I have several ways of knowing the locations of our readers …  that indicates to me that they are probably NOT Phuture Phillies readers.  So, this “attack” was more likely friends and family, and not some IT attack group like Reddit or an individual whose name is never mentioned or someone like that person.  (Editor’s note: I removed most of the text.  No point in providing a blue print to beat security.)

I’m not sure how I’m going to handle this, yet.  I am extending the poll to 30 or more players.  I don’t expect to have to add any more after this.

  1. I admit I’m a bit biased, but after last season, I think Connor Brogdon deserves a spot on the top 30.

    1. He has exceptional strikeout numbers throughout his minor league career. But relief pitchers don’t get the credit they deserve on this poll throughout the years. He seems like he is knocking on the door of the majors though. Could get to the show this year with those K rates.

    2. And, there is a very good chance, Connor Brogdon could see Philadelphia in 2020 if he can pitch like he did last season. Relievers are always in need during the season as the attrition rate can be high.

    3. Well, Steph, sometimes I just make a mistake. His name was on the list I intended to add to the poll last night. There’s not only a chance he makes the Phillies sometime this season, but, depending on his spring, he could also break camp with them. Thank you for your comment. With this longer list (and the random order of display), I may not have caught my mistake.

  2. Luis Garcia is my #9 on my poll. I’m voting for him here. He’s young but he hasn’t proven himself so far. When they signed him, I thought he’d be top 5 by now. If I applied my usual rules I use, he’d be barely top 20. I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt this year.

  5. I’ll go JoJo here I suppose. It was he or Marchan. I see Simon is getting some love as well and can’t help but think of a comp with Ender Inciarte there.

    And finally I know everyone here but me probably has given up on Cornelius Randolph but I still believe he is at least a top 30 prospect.

    1. Cornelius in my view, obviously hasn’t hit his projections but … everytime I’m about to write him off completely, he goes into a bipolar stretch where he seems to have figured out the level he is at. This is his last chance, I’m sure in many of our eyes. The other issue is he is essentially trade bait, he’s unlikely to force the FO hand for a 26 man roster spot in the next year or two. I wish him well, and hope he can pull the team a useable piece in this rebuild, while getting his chance elsewhere. I don’t expect to ever see him in a Phillies uniform, only an injury would do that, best bet is he regains some trade value and is shipped out for his chance at the majors.

          He appears to be limited to corner OF duty only and has never shown enough power or bat to ball skills to make a big league roster at a corner OF spot.

          1. Possibly KBO candidate after 2021 when he becomes Rule 55 eligible … minor league free agency, unless another MLB team decides to take a chance on his untapped potential….a guy like Brandon Moss comes to mind…they get their brief fling of star-burst normally in their late 20s.

          Signing day, when he came to CBP, he got a good whiff of those grass blades 🙂

  6. Jojo Romero and Luis and Garcia are the 2 next best prospects but I have JoJo over Luis. Jojo can already contribute as a lefty pen arm and he still has the upside of a #3/#4 if he regained his feel of his command.

    Luis Garcia’s upside is still enormous and Garcia might be the highest ceiling prospect available – but his risk is as high as his ceiling.

  7. I went with Gowdy… By the end of the season in Lakewood his velo was starting to come back and his pitch location improved…

  8. Thanks for the info on the abnormal voting, Jim. I guess Ethan Lindow has a big support group. Nothing wrong with that … but … in my mind, I have an asterisk next to his spot at #8. Anyway … best of luck to the young man this season. I hope he pitches to the same results he saw in 2019.

    And … Johan Rojas (#7 on my personal list) edges out Nick Maton (#8 on my list) here.

  9. I went with Muzziotti who looks like a possible major league CF. If he can raise his average to over 300 this year at Reading, I think he’ll be a major leaguer. He’s a legit CF defensively. I’m in the middle of the Ms on my list with Miller, Morales, Moniak, Medina, Muzziotti, and Marchan all in a row. Crazy.

  10. Devi. Offense came around. Good arm. Will be a ML catcher and a non-zero chance at division regular or better. Jojo, Muzzatti, and Garcia are all fine above him as well. Just wanted to give Grullon some love!

  11. Jim, the two votes for Maton are mine. I was confused this morning to see that we were still on #10, but the poll was open for me to vote. Dazed and confused, but not a cheater.

    2. I voted twice for muzz. I thought it was the next poll. Sorry.

      But the vote totals seem really low compared to usual, don’t they?
