Threshers Recap – 6/9/2019

Last week, the South Atlantic League announced that Lakewood’s Kyle Glogoski would represent the BlueClaws in the SAL All Star game.  The Kiwi is their sole representative.  The 20-year-old has put together an impressive resume since being activated from extended spring training on May 1st.

Glogoski has pitched in 7 games and has a 3-1 record with a 0.76 ERA.  He has walked 6 and struck out 39 in 23.2 innings.  Opposing batters are hitting 1.25 against him and he carries a 0.68 WHIP.

Glosgoski’a first four appearances were as a reliever.  He made his first start on May 25th and struck out 11 batters in five innings.

Clearwater (34-28) postponed.  Dunedin lost, so the Threshers only picked up a half game on the Blue Jays.  They trail the first place Jays by 4.0 games with 7 to play.  Their elimination number remains at four.

Lehigh Valley (30-29) beat Buffalo, 7-6 in eleven innings.  The IronPigs tied the game with a run in the eighth inning.  They hit 4 home runs during regulation.

Cole Irvin (2.44) gave up 3 runs in 5.1 innings on 9 hits.  He walked none and struck out five.  Seth McGarry (5.49) pitched 1.1 innings and allowed 1 of 2 inherited runners to score, blew the save, gave up a run on a hit and a walk, and struck out two.  Tom Windle (4.44) gave up 2 runs on 2 hits and 2 walks in 0.1 inning and blew the save.  Yacksel Rios (4.37) pitched two scoreless innings but gave up 2 hits and a walk.  Alexis Rivero (1-1, 4.58) pitched two scoreless innings for the win.

The IronPigs took the lead with 2 runs in the fourth inning on Matt McBride’s 2-run HR (7).  They added to their lead with a run in the sixth on Mitch Walding’s solo HR (8).  They retook the lead with 2 runs in the seventh on Jan Hernandez’ 2-run HR (6).  They tied the game with a run in the eighth on Damek Tomscha’s solo HR (8).  And, they took the lead for good in the eleventh on Malquin Canelo’s sac fly.

Ali Castillo and Jose Antequera had 2 hits each.  Jan Hernandez and Matt McBride had 2 RBI each.  Hernandez, Walding, Tomscha, and McBride hit home runs.

Reading (34-25) beat Harrisburg, 5-4 in ten innings.  The Phils scored 2 runs in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game.

David Parkinson pitched six innings.  He gave up 4 runs on 6 hits.  He walked none and struck out three.  Jake Hernandez (2.32) pitched a scoreless inning.  Aaron Brown (3.64) struck out two in a perfect inning.  Jeff Singer (4-0, 1.66) struck out four in two innings.

The Phils scored a run in the second inning on Luke Williams’ sac fly.  They scored another run in the seventh on Darick Hall’s solo HR (12).  They tied the game in the ninth on Cornelius Randolph’s 2-run HR (5).  They walked off in the tenth on Arquimedes Gamboa’s RBI single.

Randolph and Grenny Cumana had 2 hits each.

Manuel Silva pitched four innings and gave up one run on one hit and 2 walks.  He struck out three.  Ismael Cabrera (0.00) pitched one perfect inning.  Ethan Lindow (2-2, 2.92) pitched four innings and gave up one earned and one unearned run on 2 hits.  He walked none and struck out five.

The BlueClaws overcame a 2-run deficit with 3 runs in the sixth inning on RBI singles by Luis Garcia, Abrahan Gutierrez, and Luke Miller.  They added an insurance run in the seventh on Jonathan Guzman’s RBI single.

Lakewood had 9 hits, Guzman and Gutierrez had 2 hits each.

  2. Time to bump Singer back to AAA maybe? Phils pen needs all the help it can get so any of these guys who throws in the mid to high 90s should be given an opportunity to earn their way to the show

  3. Looks like Grullon is slumping. Would appreciate noting his daily BA as is done with other prospects. He surely looked good earlier.

    1. It’s the regression that was always coming. He strikes out way too much to be hitting .300+

  4. Singer one of my favorites, 25 YO, should of been given a chance not only because of age. 4-0, means nothing . 16 Games, 21 innings. W/L means nothing. Minor League extra inning benefitting, middle inning low stress while late inning heroics . But not a high velocity, Phillie Necessity, but system movement coming
