And so it begins…Multiple media outlets are reporting an left oblique strain for Phillies top prospect JP Crawford that will keep him out 4-6 weeks. As obliques are delicate injuries, I would expect the Phils to be extra cautious. Crawford, was likely to start the season as Reading’s starting SS.

That sucks in terms of our enjoyment of following him over the next 6 weeks but in the scheme of things, it’s really not a big deal. It sounds like he’ll be playing by May, which will be fine.
They have to take it easy with him. Even if they keep him out until June, he has plenty of time to put in a terrific season. I hope!
I believe that JP was slated to start the year with Clearwater.
Probably not a big deal. As a reference, Kelly Dugan started the 2013 season on Clearwater’s DL after he suffered a left oblique strain during spring training. He didn’t come off the DL until late April and was still promoted to Reading by early July. There’s no reason to worry that the Phillies wouldn’t be as cautious with Crawford as they were with Dugan.
Please don’t compare Crawford to Dugan when it comes to injuries (ha ha)
Good points, particularly the last one.
Well for me I only get to see READING when they come to Trenton which is mid June so I am hoping for a speedy recovery.
And so what begins? Seems like an overly negative opening for a player’s first injury.
The Phillies just announced that they’ve acquired AA shortstop Devin Lohman from the Cincinnati system for future considerations. Now we know who will fill in for Crawford while he’s sidelined.
Not a good start but it’s not like it’s an ACL or something. Crawford should be back by late April or early May.
