Hot or Not

Doing things a bit different and extending the hot or not time frame to 10-11 days rather than a week to get a better sample size. This is a look back at June 26–July 5. …Min AB’s to qualify as a hitter is 17…Is there any legitimate reason to not give Leandro Castro a big league cup of coffee at tis stage to see what he may have??Maikel Franco heating up…Very nice to see Kelly Dugan healthy and on the hot list…Cameron Perkins is really struggling over the last several weeks…Mitch Guellar has seemed to have figured things out over the last two weeks…Perci Garner hits the starter and reliever “not hot” list….EThan Martin has been just awful since being sent down to Lehigh Valley.

  1. I have been saying for years that castro is a worthy major league outfielder. I guess letting tyson gillies go, watching collier struggle over the last 2 seasons and confirming the fact that ruben amaro and his staff dont know what the heck they are doing gives reason to my response. By the way he is hitting 405 over the last 11 games.

    1. Watching him the last 2 seasons he was a wild undisciplined swinger. Hopefully, he has finally found “it”.

    1. He’s a 1st round pick, so the Phils will give him at least 5-6 years of failure before they let him go.

    1. He’s cooled off a lot after April, when he hit .400. Still, I’d like to see him go to Clearwater just because it would open a spot for Tromp in Lakewood.

    2. Astudillo can rotate between catching, DHing and 1st base to get his ABs.
I can only assume his catching every day duties for this season will be continued to be limited.

  2. Astudillo’s CS% has been ludicrously bad since the injury. It was never good in the first place, but hopefully it can normalize somewhat as he regains arm strength and gets some experience. He’s looking like a man without a position.

    1. no, it wasn’t.

It would be really cool if they invented a … thing … maybe something one could access from one’s computer or other electronic device … a network of locations where data (such as Piazza’s career CS percentage) is stored … and you could access that data at the click of a button, mostly for free!

A pipe dream I know, but it would be cool!

  3. The bats are hot in general- the entire Williamsport lineup, save Hoskins and Hernandez, is hovering around .300, Dugan & Franco are hot, plus the Lakewood and Clearwater prospects are making better contact. Zach Green is over .270, Cozens & Tocci are up to .240…

Besides Hoskins, the 2014 College picks are hitting near or over .300…which they should be

  4. Altherr gets a bit of a pass because of the yo-yo effect of being called up to the big club and then back down and then up and then down. I agree that Castro has earned his dues and should get the call when the fire sale starts. Let’s see what he’s got and then we’ll know. He plays all 3 OF spots. He’s been a run producer throughout his minor league career and lord knows the Phils could use some kind of run producer. If a better option appears then take it, otherwise let’s see what we’ve got.

  5. With the lack of true elite prospects in the upper levels, I find myself rooting more for some cool stories to make me feel good this summer. Would love to see Fox make it back to the Majors, and would be thrilled if they have even a replacement level starter in Lowen.

If I were them I’d get Marquis up now and hope he can put togehter 3 decent starts and maybe get an Andrew Pullin caliber prospect for him at the deadline for a team that needs one more arm.
