Quite a week looking back at Jun 19-25 with interesting names showing up on both sides of the ledger…Starting pitching was brutal this week with Jesse Biddle leading the way and prominent names like Guellar and Nola not far behind…Start paying alot of attention to Andrew Pullin, who as a 2B should be rising up the prospect rankings…Good to see Brian Pointer getting on track…Brad Lincoln really seems to be the only choice for the start the Phils need on Saturday. He has been throwing very well as a starter….Larry Greene Jr came off the DL on fire…how long will that last?

Starting pitching was brutal indeed. When you can only come up with three names under “Hot” and two of those three performances were rather pedestrian, and then seeing a number of our promising guys falling in the “Not Hot” side of the ledger, it’s not a good moment in time. Well, maybe the U.S. World Cup soccer team and tonight’s NBA draft can distract us until we (hopefully) see some turnaround.

I mean this with all the respect in the world, but maybe this should be a monthly column? I just find it weird calling a pitcher hot or not bc of 3-8 innings, and a hitter based on 16 abs
Just a sugguestion? Doing it with this small of a sample size invites ridiculous overreactions

You make a very good point…I was actually considering spreading it out some, so we could make sure two starts by SP would be within the date range so, I think we are now looking at reports every 10-11 days. That also helps weed out relief pitchers that make one good appearance over a week. Thanks for the thought.

No Tromp on the hot hitters list?

Jesse Biddle has been placed on the temporary inactive list. Per Mike Drago on Twitter, here’s what he had to say: “Nothing feels fluid on the mound, nothing feels natural. I’m miserable out there. I’m very unhappy. And I don’t know why.” Yikes……………..

Hot: Phillies bullpen. De Fratus hasn’t allowed an earned run since his recall the end of May (15 innings). Everyone is tearing it up right now. Wasn’t that long ago I’d check a box score and all the ERA’s besides Pap were over 5, now they are all under 3 (besides Diekman)

This is as strong and deep of a bullpen as I can ever recall. And I’m not just talking about Phillies history – it could be an historically great bullpen and only one of the pitchers who is important is over 30 (Papelbon).
Basically, if the team can get through 5 innings, the bullpen shuts it down from there – that’s amazing. And how about having both a lefty and a righty who hit triple digits?
The team needs to take calculated risks at this point. I’d try to move Papelbon to acquire a prospect or two and reduce salary. The team could take on salary in return in the form of a competent outfielder. It’s just a thought, but Papelbon should be traded as soon as possible. They will barely notice the difference.
