Here we go…
Catcher: Deivi Gruillon, Wilson Garcia
Infield: Malquin Canelo, Rhys Hoskins, Jan Hernandez, Wilmer Oberto, Robinson Torres
Outfield: Herlis Rodriguez, Jiandido Tromp; Cord Sandberg
Pitchers: Alejandro Arteaga, Rich Bielski, Delvi Franciso, Manny Martinez, Mitch Guellar; Ricardo Pinto, Frank Rivas, Keivi Rojas, Feliberto Sanchez, David Whitehead
DL: Josh Warner
I would expect both Chris Oliver and Brandon Leibrandt added to the Williamsport pitching staff shortly.
Hope im wrong but i dont see enough prospects

your wrong team is loaded Hoskins, canello, tromp, sandberg, grullon, hernandez and that’s just the hitters

Grullon and Sandberg could be in our top 10.

Lots of guys left off of this roster that I have to assume are getting released. All of this year’s college guys are still coming too. Sandberg, Hernandez and Grullon as well as Gueller and Sanchez stand out as the guys to watch for me although Herlis has always hit too. If Oliver goes here to pitch in relief, he could be a fast mover.

Don’t forget that some of them will be staying down in Florida to play in the GCL, though guys will certainly be getting released.

I know but there’s other guys that have been around that aren’t here that I don’t expect to be on the GCL roster either. Its the end of the line for a bunch of guys, just like every year at this time.

Kind of a bummer to not see Trey Williams. Guess that tells us what the Phillies think of him at this point. Although it’s not too surprising with Hoskins and Hernandez there. Also no Franklyn Vargas or Denton Keys.

Vargas was released a couple of weeks ago. Keys needs another stint in GCL.

Thanks for the info. I wonder what went wrong with Vargas. He had a good debut in 2012, was a little young for the league and got a pretty nice bonus to sign. Too bad.

Trey Williams? I don’t see him.

Cutters are playing with a short roster for the weekend, NYPL allows 30 on the roster but the Cutters only have 21. My understanding is the Phillies are doing some evaluations on drafted college guys to make decisions on where to send them. Was told college guys won’t be coming until Sunday.

That’s if Oliver doesn’t get arrested for another DWI…

I am very intrigued by Hoskins. He had very good stats in college, but it was in the WAC. I like his combination of controlling the strike zone and hitting for power. We will see if it carries over to the NYPL as we all know how tough it is to hit one out in WPT.

Hoskins lead the Cape Cod League in RBI’s last summer and was 2nd only to 1st round draft pick Conner Gillaspie in home runs !!

Very disappointed that Denton Keys is not on this roster. Thought for sure that he would be on this roster.

the three names im disappointed aren’t on the initial roster are Tre Williams who has been raking in extended per reports, Pujols, and Denton Keys who has been said to be pitching much better than last summer when he first signed.

Does Trey Wiliams have an injury that may be delaying his promotion?

A few weeks ago Williams was playing the field but NOT batting. He has been batting for the last couple weeks. He’s opened his stance and has been making decent contact. Maybe he has some lingering effects to whatever prevented him from batting earlier. I was surprised he was left off. I heard he was surprised to.

no injury Trey will be playing everyday in the Gulf Coast League. He will get plenty at bats in Florida

I’m a little disappointed to see Grullon on this roster. I was hoping he could stick at Lakewood, especially since he has shown some offensive ability lately. Understandable, though. He’s only 18 and needs work with the bat to become a complete prospect. Maybe he plays well for Williamsport and then gets a late call-up back to Lakewood.

i think they want to get Willians reps behind the plate.

Knapp is going to start catching and playing everyday in Lakewood, so Gruillon to Williamsport

Ah, forgot about Knapp. It seems like forever since he caught a game even though it’s only been a year.

This is what happens when you have a college-only draft. We could either have a completely overaged GCL team or we could make the ages make a little more sense but hold last year’s young picks back in the GCL. Those were the only two options. I guess you could start trying to promote up in Low A and High A but nobody there has really earned an obvious promoton.

I’m listening to the BlueClaws and there is a reporting Quinn will move to OF and Crawford will be moving up to Clearwater.

why not second first?

Just a question would you consider CF or Second base to have more value, I think it is a tough call ,Im sure there is conventional wisdom but I still think it is a debate plus when you consider he might be an average 2nd but an awesome CF

2B. More balls are hit in (or through) the IF than the OF for one thing. But also because the ability to turn double plays is huge. And IF are almost constantly in motion for every play (backing up a throw, getting in position for a run-down, etc.).
Just to be clear this is my list of positions by value (both as a player and someone who values advanced statistics, for what it’s worth):
C > SP > SS > 2B > CF > 3B > RF > LF > 1B

makes sense and seems logical thanks for the info

CF, 3B, and 2B are about equal in value. Fangraphs gives them all the same positional adjustment, while BR considers them 0.5 runs different in value (2B > CF > 3B).
For a guy with great speed, I would think Quinn has a better chance to be a plus defender in center than at second.

Where are ss and c in that equation as for run differential in value?
LikeLike
Fangraphs: C is 5 runs better than SS, which is 5 runs better than CF/3B/2B.
BR: C is 2.5 runs better than SS, which is 5 runs better than 2B.
Then there’s a 10-run dropoff to LF/RF.

Weird I had heard that he was really playing well at short stop , but CF is valuable aswell and with his speed he could really have alot of value there aswell and it looks like Crawford will be the SS of the future anyway
