Dylan Cozens went deep twice for Lakewood to up his season total to seven, while Samuel Hiciano hit his fifth and went 3-5. Carlos Tocci, J.P. Crawford and Wilmer Oberto all added multi-hit games as well, but Alejandro Arteaga got beat up pretty good by West Virginia.
Hoby Milner put up a nice line, giving up just 3H, 2BB and 5K in 6.1IP. He threw a solid 71% of his pitches for strikes. Edgar Duran was 4-5 and hit a 12th inning HR to give the RPhils the lead, and after an RBI from Brock Stassi, Nefi Ogando walked four in the bottom of the frame, but struck out two and induced a flyball to pick up what looks, on paper, like the ugliest save of the year. Stassi’s having a nice year at the plate, OPSing .869. Unfortunately, his positional inflexibility will be an issue he’ll have a hard time overcoming without adding more home run power – he’s got just 10 in nearly 900 pro PAs. That won’t play at first base, and it doesn’t seem like he can play anywhere else.
And finally, Cameron Rupp hit his first home run since returning from a month-long DL stint. Good to see that. Justin De Fratus and Ethan Martin each gave up three hits and one run in an inning of work. Sounds like some of their big league counterparts.

Appalachian Power Park in West Virginia does promote the power.
Great to see cozens getting his power stroke in order.
And have to like Hiciano’s surge of late also.
Cannot wait for Zach Green’s return.

Zach Green would have had nine homers in that park this week.

I actually thought this Lakewood team, prior to the season, would challenge for the HR Sally record that the Ranger;s Hickory team hit last year or the year before, not sure when it was actually.
But that Ranger;s affiliate palys in a very hitter friendly park vs Lakewood’s park.

Lwood offense really had looked good recently, let’s hope they keep it going. Walding has fallen off after a good start. He’s barely still a prospect at this point. As soon as Green gets healthy, walding will be a decision for them. Watching Hiciano, he looks like a player. His results are starting to look like a player also. Cozens and Hiciano with Tocci could be a nice of combo for awhile.

Yeah, they can stick Walding on the bench when Green comes back, which I hope is sooner rather than later.

Dylan Cozens = Adam Dunn ???

Cozens is way more sleek and athletic than Dunn. Probably closer to Jayson Werth or Mike Morse for a physical comp.

Adam Dunn now or Adam Dunn when he was 20? Cause yeah, the latter would be a pretty good comparison.

This is the Lakewood team I think most of us were hoping to see. There are a lot of positives going on right now. It should only get better when Green gets back. My hunch is they move Walding to CWater just because there’s prob nothing better there and he can still get reg abs.

I don’t think they’ll promote him and green certainly isn’t ready to go up either. This is very different than Crawford and Quinn. Walding has really never hit. He looks like a player and has a beautiful swing but the game isn’t coming easy to him. They might send him to Wsport to get at bats and get his confidence back.

Walding must have read my comments, he has 3 hits and his first dinger tonight. Hiciano with 2 more word hits and Crawford also as LWood is doing it again

Blows my mind how we have great physique muscular athletes like Altherr, Hewitt, Gillies Walding et al who struggle to get their bats on the ball, and then there are the short, stocky, long-thin, slow footed non-athletic guys like Perkins, Astudillo and even someone bulky like Franco, who can hit everything before they even get their second foot out of bed in the morning!

It is odd I was just thinking micheal Jordan , I mean really an amazing athlete with really good hand eye coordination, and couldnt hit the ball either.

I see a lot of negative comments on Waldings hitting. Yes the strike outs are concerning but you have to remember he is still finding his timing. He had no spring training & lost the first 3 weeks of the season. He only got 4 practice games after his rehab & was sent directly on the road to play. the fact he is hitting at all after having a rib removed is a good sign. If only they took as much time with his healing as the did with Quinn maybe things would be different.
