Andrew Knapp‘s hitting rehab appears to be over. He has been assigned to Clearwater and will likely take over as full time DH until he has been cleared to catch. Currently the Threshers roster has 4 catchers with Knapp, Gabriel Lino, Chad Carman (Temporary Inactive list), and Logan Moore. There will likely be another roster move coming at some point, but for now it seems like Justin Parr is the roster cut (assigned to XST) and could be not long for the organization.

I’m assuming Knapp doesn’t catch until mid-season or a little after that. Lino and Moore will handle it until he’s ready. Parr does look like the odd man out. He’s not on the CLW roster anymore.

Parr will have to wait for the draft and see if they fill up the WIL outfield, I would guess. If they do, I can’t see him being kept around.

He and Ferdinand are both really roster filler. Would love someone from Lakewood earning a promotion to play OF because there is really a hole in Clearwater, especially with Greene not developing. It might be interesting to see if they are at all tempted to play Quinn in the Clearwater OF later this year, especially if Crawford earns a promotion.

Wait? So there’s actually a player worth watching on Clearwater now? This is breaking news.

If you think Knapp is worth watching, then yes. He will be OK with the bat, but Moore, Lino, and Carman are all three much better behind the plate than Knapp. In two years, everyone will realize that he was just another of the poor high round picks who amounts to nothing. Pretty typical of the Phillies organization the last few years.

The last high round catcher the Phillies drafted played on their big league team last September. So history is not on your side 100% on this argument.

I don’t know if he is or not but being a high pick last year alone makes him worth watching.

Any chance of Knapp ending in Reading this year if he shows promise in Clearwater? This would only happen if Tommy Joseph continues to hit good.

I really doubt it. The bat may be ready for Reading at some point, but having him have to jump defensively from the NYPL to AA would not be a good thing for his development.

I’m not necessarily talking about a high pick catcher, but more about high picks in general over the past few years. Face it guys, the Phillies are BAD! Not just in the majors……they are bad from the bottom up. Lakewood….next to last, Clearwater….cellar dwellers, Reading….bottom third, Lehigh Valley….bottom of the barrel…….Major league team…..sucking mud off of the bottom. It’s one thing to have a bad year or two in the majors as long as you have a number of real promising players down in the minors that are coming up quickly. What does the Phillies have in the minors? Maybe a player here or there, but there aren’t eight position players in the whole organization that you could put on the field two or three years from now and win a pennant with. They suck from top to bottom. This organization is in serious trouble and will be for quite a while to come unless they can pick up some free agents or trade for some proven players.

Actually , they way you describe their ‘suckfulness’ from top to bottom….no need for trades or free agent signees since the ‘organization is in serious trouble and will be for quite some time’…so they will be drafting in the top of each draft and stock pile prospects like JP Crawford and the like
They already started their suck period, so the last two drafts have some serious hopefuls, , so we are looking at maybe 3 or 4 more years

The consensus is the Phillies farm system is ok, but trending upwards. Name me a system other than the Red Sox, Pirates, Astros, Twins, and Cubs that meets your criteria, and 4 of those systems have been picking at the top of drafts for a long time. If you find the farm worth just continuously complaining about without adding something to the discussion you should try somewhere else.

It’s hard to argue that about the system in general. However, if your feeling is that of any new player than why even pay attention or follow? I’m not saying Knapp is gonna be Mike Piazza but he was a 2nd rd pick last yr and did decent in WPort last year. All I said is he’s someone worth paying attention to.

I saw Knapp play in Williamsport. I was not impressed with his catching at all.

You also realize he only has been catching for just over a year. 2013 was the first year he caught full time. He has a lot of work to do behind the plate, not mention he was playing last year with a partially torn UCL in his right arm.

I really believe that catching is the hardest position to learn, and to be catching for only a year isn’t nearly enough, to judge him,imo

Kelly Dugan posted on FB that he is headed to Clearwater for rehab. Don’t know if with Threshers or in XST, but he could certainly help in the Threshers’ OF for a few games.

Interesting how a comment can be made on here and never show up. I guess the liberal media has taken over even on blogs.
