Lots to talk about here – but probably the most interesting thing I see is Severino Gonzalez’ first start stateside. He went 4 innings, giving up 3 hits and striking out 5. If they think he’s got the stuff to stick there, he’s suddenly jumped from likely a fringe/non-prospect at Williamsport, to someone on whom we’ll need to get more information. That’s a big jump, and one that would be surprising for anyone to make successfully.

When do you guys think that Kelly Dugan gets the call to Reading?

I think Dugan and Altherr will be promoted before end of June.

Franco should be promoted as well

He’s so young, there is no rush.

I think they should keep those three together.

I’m going to the Reading game on Wednesday and have been praying those guys get promoted in the next day or so

Promoting Altherr would be nuts. He has a K rate of 28% and a babip above .400; the power is legit but he still has big-time contact issues that have been covered up by his babip. I think Dugan and Franco will go to Reading at some point, though.

Dugan’s Babip is just as high as Altherr’s the K rate just as high so how do you promote one and not the other?

Altherr’s K rate is higher than Dugan’s. 23% to 28.6%. Definitely makes a difference.

Around Aug 1 if he keeps it up.

Quinn needs to keep running to keep his SB # above his errors.

Love it! Soo true. Box score doesn’t show all errors. Add a minimum of 10 more to his stats and that’s the true #.

No ones Mom. Live in Lehigh, season ticket holder to the Pigs and listen to other games live on the radio. Listen or watch and you will see the Box Score E’s change at the end of the game. Manager lobbies the scorekeeper to change his E stats. Ask anyone who attend Blue Claws live and they will confirm. I speak only the truth. Just a huge phan.

You live in Lehigh, but you get to see all of the Errors Quinn makes in Lakewood, NJ?

Internet and live also. I travel to Reading, Lakewood and Clearwater a few times a year and Spring Training to see games. Listen and you will see. Not saying he won’t get better, but a lot of errors that a SS shouldn’t be making.

Why do you think they do that? And how can they do that. Everyone else will get the error if they look at the ball wrong.

I haven’t watched the games, but one example of how a bad SS might get fewer errors is positioning. If you’re badly enough out of position on a routine ground ball that you can’t get to it even with a good jump, they won’t charge you with an error even if it is a play that should get made 100% of the time. SS covers so much ground that it’s not especially surprising for an inexperienced fielder to be that badly out of position.
At the same time, however, if those are the 10 extra errors he’s being accused of then they are absolutely ridiculous to worry about because they’ll disappear completely with experience. In fact, at this point all of the errors are pretty silly to worry about. Outfield and Infield are barely even the same sport. If he’s getting close enough to the ball to make errors then everything else is going to come around in time. And I’ve heard most of his errors are throwing errors. To state the obvious: How many times have you seen a high school center fielder throw side arm across his body on the run? Never. How many times per game does a SS have to do that?

He’s learning SS, he’s learning how to bat from both sides and he’s learning to adapt to advanced pitching. The kid will be fine and I have a feeling he will stick at SS

‘he will stick at SS’ until 2015, then Crawford becomes the guy therfe.

A wholly uninspiring day for the organization all together. Blah.

Gillies was pulled today due to lack of hustle, according to Anthony Burkhart on Twitter.
