22 thoughts on “What Phillies Minor Leaguer Has Been Most Disappointing This Year?”
May avoided it with a good ending, the other guys didn’t have enough expectations to be failures.
I voted other for Sebastion Valle who has essentially stagnated. He has good power but not much else and can he translate in the bigs? He could have broken out instead we are questioning if he is even the second best catcher in the system.
I voted Trevor May.
Brody Colvin has been horrible, but I didn’t expect anything from Colvin. May is more of a disappointment, because I expected him to at least establish himself as a mid rotation starter prospect for 2013. Colvin hadn’t shown anything in the past, for me to be that disappointed in his performance this year.
I went with May because of expectations. I would have loved to see Colvin do better, but he really didn’t ruin my reputation because I didn’t have many. May did not meet my expectations this year. If it’s who had the worst year, than yes, Colvin or harold Martinez. but with expectations mixed in, it changes things
Colvin is a standout pick here, but even he threw in some solid games. Tyler Greene arrived with a some strong reports, including from Keith Law who called Greene the Phillies best tough-sign pick and someone who would be farther over slot than I can remember them going in any recent draft. I had high hopes. The folks in Lakewood said he was tremendously overmatched and it didn’t look any better from the seats in Williamsport. Sure, he’s still young but we had high hopes for Greene and this was definitely a disappointing season.
It has to be Colvin here. Even though he has flashed some of the ability that made him a top prospect. I think it is pretty safe to say he has firmly removed himself from the top 20. It just seems every promotion has exposed his control issues and tendency to let innings snowball away from him.
I look at him as a strong relief prospect with good stuff and a slim chance to still put it together as a starter. Hard to see him falling out of my top 20-30 range just yet.
Brad, I picked Brody Colvin because of his starting pitcher potential which he did not approach at all. I agree with you that he is too talented not to be considered as a relief pitcher which everyone needs. Perhaps he will become like Brad Lincoln of the Pirates/Blue Jays and still help the Phillies.
I went with Valle. I think the FO was banking on him as a callup next year with a migration to starter in another year. That they went after Joseph as an alternative possibly says that Valle has fallen in stature.Greene may have had difficulty with the transition to life on the road so I am giving him some slack. Pointer had early season success but didnt make the necessary adjustments as the SAL league caught up with him. he has tools and hopefully as he fills out the tools will also develop.
Went Harold Martinez here only because I had lesser expectations for Colvin in the first place. May is just fine. Not an ideal season by any means but flashes of dominance keep me encouraged. He was never going to fly through the system and has done enough this year to warrant a start at LV next season and barring injury will be pitching in the majors at some point.
HMart (a 2nd rd selection in 2011) on the other hand showed some promise last year with Williamsport but the lack of XBH and overall lackluster performance against mostly younger competition warrants my top disappointment
The real problem is he is not showing improvements in the secondary skills. You can get away with low walk rates if you also have low k rates but Valle has yet to show it and the older he gets the less likely he learns. That said he could still have a future as a back up, but that is a much worse prospect
Just looking at these names again, Pointer really doesn’t seem like a disappointment at all. Imagine he doesn’t get aggressively pushed to LKW where he has really struggled at times. He had Aaron Altherr’s 2011 season. Pointer strikes out more but he also walks twice as much, he has less speed but much more power. Not the breakout year people wanted but he had a productive year and is still very much a prospect.
I vote for Harold Martinez. The other people on the list may have “burst your pretty balloons” but I would say people had too high of expectations to begin with. The others on the list should be kept in their same roles, take another swing at the pinata next season and through growth and experience they will bounce back to a more favorable outlook. After that , who knows? H. Martinez, however, doesn’t look like much of a use of a higher draft pick. I might believe they started him too high or rushed him somewhat.

Hard to say Trevor May cause he’s atleast been dominant at some points, so I say Colvin

Pointer. He went from prospect to suspect. At least the other guys are still on the radar.

Pointer is no more suspect than Tyler Greene, IMO. Pointer did have ‘some’ positive numbers at Lakewood. Tyler didn’t have any at Williamsport.

May because I never saw much in Colvin in the first place.

I took Martinez, because from here he was drafted and scouting and fair results last year, he really tanked.

just wondering about valle moved up a level. hit about 250 with 17 hrs 58 rbis, lousy obp, but not so bad we give up on a 21 year old.
