  1. Savery’s average dropping fast.
Mathieson with his first save. Hopefully that will get him started.
I was thinking the Mattair experiment was close to ending with his pitiful start but another game with extra bases including first HR of the season. He still has a long ways to go but it is great that he is having some success.
Cesar Hernandez dropped to 8th and barely over .100. I am guessing everyone gets the rest of this month before moves are made on performance but I am sure if he would not do better going back to XST then to Lakewood.
Any reason Lugo pitched the rest of the CLW game. That was a bunch of relief innings. Maybe just trying to pad the Save stats?

  2. General board question:
Is there a limit to number of players that can be assigned to Extended Spring Training? After Rookie Ball starts does that number change?

Seems like a good way to some increased reps. Would it be better in XST or bench at Lakewood?

  3. I love to see that Bonine is doing well. Does anyone know how often he is throwing the knuckler? I’m a big fan of knuckleball pitchers since such a great percentage of them that made it to the big leagues turned out to be very good to excellent pitchers. If you get a good one, you can put him as your 5th starter for ten years and forget about him. And people forget that once upon a time, knuckleball pitchers were among the top relievers. Go check out Hoyt Wilhelm’s numbers – they are eyepopping.

    1. I saw him pitch in his one start in Allentown, and I saw only one or two certain knucklers. There may have been more, but I couldn’t really tell. Reports have him between 19-23%. I’ll keep watching/listening.

  4. Early season standings:
    Lehigh Valley 5-3
    Reading 6-3
    Clearwater 7-3
    Lakewood 4-4

Not sure if there is a site for organizational standings, but 22-13 has to be close to the top. Let’s hope the trend continues

    1. LHV, Reading, and Clearwater all have a share of first place this morning. I know it’s early and winning doesn’t matter, but for an IronPigs guy like me, I’ll take whatever I can get.

  6. I’m surprised there is no build-up on the site, for the Bryce Harper-Jesse Biddle matchups today. It was supposed to happen yesterday, but got rained out.

      1. Biddle struck him out a second time too. From my seat on the 3rd base side you could see Harper throw his helmet and brake his bat over his knee.

  7. Not sure where to put this but since we’re talking about Biddle: Pat Gillick is on Sun Sports (Marlins telecast) and said that the Phils were going to take Christian Yelich last year but the Marlins nabbed him first. The Phils took Biddle a few picks later.

    1. Heard that on a Baseball prospectus podcast earlier this year. Is it normal to give that kind of info after you have drafted a guy?

      1. No idea if that’s common or not. But at this very early stage at both their careers, I’m kind of glad it worked out the way it did.
