The Philadelphia Inquirer reported today that 2010 Reading Manager Steve Roadcap has been told that he will not return to the RPhils in 2011, but will remain in the organization with a job at the Single A level. With Lehigh Valley Manager Dave Huppert having been fired at the end of the 2010 season, both of the top two levels of the organization will have new managers at the helm at the start of the 2011 season.
Although not a note relating to a Phillies prospect, I would be remiss not congratulating Lehigh Valley IronPigs General Manager Kurt Landes on being named the International League Executive of the Year. Lehigh Valley led all 160 minor league teams in attendance last year, a truly amazing feat considering the fact that Lehigh Valley is 27th out of 30 teams in AAA baseball as far as market size. Even with an abysmal team on the field, the Lehigh Valley staff led by Landes continued providing an entertaining night out for familes in the Lehigh Valley. Congrats on a job very well done.
So seems like one (or both) or the A-ball managers will be getting promoted. Personally I’d like to see Parent go to Clearwater and not be promoted to Reading or LHV because I’d like to see him continue on with the Lakewood prospects he coached this year, as well as being there for the continued development of Valle since Parent was a catcher himself.

I agree with you on this. Dusty Wathen should go to Reading and Parent to Clearwater. I’m guessing it will help the players in the long run playing for a familiar face.

Why take a unsuccessful double a manager, get to work with the younger top prospects, makes no sense to me.

Roadcap did have winning records when he managed Lakewood.

After checking on the Dusty WathAn as Clearwater manager thing, somehow thought Ernie Whitt was still in there somewhere, but Wathan it is, so maybe he moves up. On the MiLB page I see that EL manager of the Year, Mark Walbeck (40) (Altoona Curve- League Champions this season) is now available. No reason given by Pirates for firing him , but word has it he was let go for not following organizational ” player development and instruction plan”. Could be a parallel to Philly , if the real reason be known for removing the grizzled warhorses at AA and AAA. Maybe they selected and played too many grizzled veteran types.

Again, you can not judge minor league managers based on the team’s w/l record. Their job is to teach 1st, play the guys the organization wants to play in the positions they want them to play 2nd, and win 3rd.

Reading makes sense…. since he coached a lot of the guys in Clearwater in 2009 as well.

Speaking of managers, do you think Bobby Cox will send a bottle of Boubon to Charlie Manuel for using Baez today? I think any of our AA or AAA relievers can outpitch this guy.

I’ve read very little on this site in regard to Lakewood pitching coach Steve Schrenk. From his assignments it appears Philllies management appears to be quite high on him, in addition to some excellent results with the Lakewood staff.
I believe he is going to be managing a winter league team in Australia, and would it be possible that the Phillies may consider him for one of the open positions, if he does well and they think he can successfully make the transition?
