Taveras Released

The Phillies released Willy Taveras this afternoon, after signing the 29 year old just a month ago. In his 96 at bats with AAA Lehigh Valley, Taveras was hitting just .208/.255/.271 with 0HR 3 RBI and 9 SB.

  1. Slim pickings in LHV tonight….assuming Dorta plays second, who plays short? They really don’t have any other middle infielders.

  2. There’s probably something attitude-wise going on with Taveras. He’s been released quickly by a couple of teams.

  3. No need to slam the guy. Like D. Wise, he probably had an “out” clause in his contract.

  4. Ransom at SS for now. Held his own through first game-and-a-half while I was there. We’ll need another middle infielder, though.

    BTW, Brown’s fun to watch…. (!)

  5. LHV has too many OF’ers and some of these guys will get very little playing time with Brown and Mayberry playing each day.

  6. Reason for Willy Taveras release? A cursory view of his stats might suggest this- non-performance.

So much for the sure-fire September call-up , pinch runner, base stealer extraordinaire as he was originally proclaimed on here, best of luck finding a new gig.

The LVIP OF now has 4 OF’s in it , so the recall of another from Reading (which also has 4) is optional not mandatory as most minor league teams carry but 4 OF’s.

Only 10 position players at LVIP, means likely recall of 2 more.

Re-instatement of Fidel Hernandez at Clearwater leaves them with 5 Middle Infielders, so maybe that is where the push up comes from. I guess they promote Harold Garcia to Reading and bump Ozzie Chavez to LVIP, and promote the organizational player-coach type Keoni DeRenne all the way from Clearwater to LVIP. That is the move they should make.

  7. Looking at Mayberry’s stats, it is hard to make the argument that he needs to play every day any more. His stats this year are slightly below last year in BA, on base percentage and OPS, although he is playing at the same level (AAA). He is a .250 hitter with the ability to hit a home run every 25 at bats or so. Disappointing. At least Taveras could steal a base for you if you needed it.

  8. If nothing else, this was a good week for Ironpigs fans. Both Bocock and Taveras out of the lineup?
