A look at the Lehigh Valley weekend, along with some news and notes.
Friday–The new Lehigh Valley lineup performed like the old Lehigh Valley lineup in their 2-1 loss to Durham on Friday evening. The ‘Pigs had just 4 hits in their failure to support starter Nate Bump (6-4) who pitched well once again, going 7 innings and giving up just two runs. After a two run Durham first inning, Lehigh Valley scored their lone run in the 5th when Paul Hoover scored on an error. The ‘Pigs were 0-8 with RISP during the debut of Domonic Brown and Greg Dobbs. Dobbs was 0-4 with 2 K’s, while Brown went 1-4.
Saturday-An ugly night in Durham on Saturday in the Lehigh Valley 10-3 loss. Joe Savery (1-8)had his typical difficulty early on, and throughout as he allowed 4 runs on 5 hits, in his 5 innings of work. Consistent with his difficulty in the first inning all season, he gave up two runs in the first. Mike Stutes came in for the 6th and was hit hard, allowing 4 runs of his own. It was 9-0 before Lehigh Valley was able to get 3 runs in the 8th, the big hit being an Andy Tracy 2 run single.
Sunday–Lehigh Valley salvaged their weekend with a 4-2 victory over Durham on Sunday behind Brian Mazone(5-7) . Mazone threw an effective 7 innings giving up just 2 runs on 7 hits. He walked one and struck out 3. The ‘Pigs opened the scoring in the 4th on an RBI single by Paul Hoover and added a second run in the 6th on a Melvin Dorta sac fly. Starter Brian Mazone was moving along very well until a 2 run homer by Fernando Perez tied the game at 2 in the 7th. Lehigh Valley regained the lead in the 8th when an RBI single by Domonic Brown scored Andy Tracy who had doubled. An insurance run was added in the 9th when a Greg Dobbs sac fly scored Willy Taveras who had tripled. Scott Mathieson pitched a scoreless ninth, striking out 2 to earn his 13th save of the season. Domonic Brown was 3-4 with a double, while Greg Dobbs, Andy Tracy and Paul Hoover added two hits apiece.
–During his first weekend in the lineup Domonic Brown was 4-11 (.364)with a double and an RBI. He was picked off of first base on Sunday.
–Greg Dobbs started 0-8 in his first two IronPigs games but came on with a multi hit game on Sunday, making him 2-13 on the weekend (.152) with a double, and an RBI.
–In his last 8 games, pitcher Brian Gordon is 1-0 with a 1.65 ERA. He has walked 3 and struck out 15, over 16.1 innings during that period.

Dom Brown with his first AAA RBI. It was a quibber up the middle that found the hole.
I don’t see how any fan though can sit and watch the combo of Brian Bocock and Willy Taveras hit back-to-back. What an excrutiating experience.

Lousy showing for the Pigs today on the MLB network. Greg Dobbs doesn’t even look like he belongs in AAA, I’m sure the end is near for him.
Carpenter/Gorden pitched well, but it’s gotta be heartbreaking to watch Vogelsong blow it like that.

As terrible as Bocock is, he is polar opposite in fielding. The Ironpig’s haven’t had a defensive shortstop like this in their 3 short years in existance. He reminds me of TJ Bohn.. couldn’t hit a lick but was masterful on the field.

Agreed on Dobbs, Its looks like he can’t see the ball properly.
Such a bad team. It’s a waste of your best manager

Can an argument be made that Dom doesn’t belong with this cess pool of characters at Lehigh and that Ibanez is playing himself right out of the big club line-up?
If I were Ruben I’d find any excuse I could to DL Raul and get the kid in a big league uni. This team seems so lack luster and inconsistent right now.
Looks like we’ll miss Heyward when they come in for the July 5 series wouldn’t it be nice to trump that card with a good looking rook of our own. I’m just sayin…
