  1. Not much to say here. Sanchez gave up 4 runs but he continues to be solid and consistent. I see Zack Sterner was released. He wasn’t getting it done since coming back from injury. D’Arby Myers is back on the roster. Overbeck’s been missing from the lineup for two games. Anything to that?

Even the South American teams were losers yesterday. they haven’t played enough games to even start a discussion.

  2. Anthony Gose May/June (according to minor league splits.com, if I did the arithmetic correctly): .311/.396/.459.

    46/148, 7 2B, 6 3B, 1 HR, 17 BB / 37 K

  3. Best stat for Gose: 17 BB. When he’s selective and hits his pitch, he walks and is better all-around. Still early, but this is a very encouraging development for his progression.

  4. Gose is really coming around, but the dude has got to cut it out with the getting caught stealing.

Or maybe we just wave it away, and assume that Davey Lopes turns him into an 80% guy when he gets to the bigs…

  5. D’Arby Myers back playing last game. Maybe that’s how they should go for now. Like it with Mitchell in RF, Myers in LF, Murphy and Ruf for 1B/DH, and as long as Overbeck stays in FSL that gives some good RH hitting there. I am thinking maybe when the new draftees sign and start to work in, some will be assigned to Lakewood and they can push Overbeck and maybe Garcia to Reading.

  6. On Gose and the CS: The only way to learn is to practice. He’s still learning to read pitchers I’m guessing…especially as a large number of those CS are actually pickoffs. The speed/baserunning is there though.

  7. Sorry if this has been discussed elsewhere, but is there any indication about when Singleton might be promoted?

  8. I’d be surprised if it was any time earlier than late July/early August. They’ll want him to get a couple times through the league and see guys a 2nd or 3rd time to see if this is real. Besides, based on his age, the rush just isn’t there.

  9. How about Davey Lopes names his successor? In the entire time I’ve been watching baseball Lopes has been the single most effective coach I have seen in doing what he was hired to do. In less than a season, Lopes completely changed the fortunes of Phillies’ base runners. Just take a look at their steals and percentages before and after he joined the team – it’s amazing and, as far as I can tell, the difference is due entirely to Lopes’ coaching.

  10. Hard to argue against that, Catch. One of the more clearcut contributions from the coaching staff, not just now, but in Phils memory since I have been watching in the early ’60s.

  11. Maybe they can get Davey to take a free vacation every spring in ST, train his replacement, using one of the brighter baserunning specialists among coaching candidates, and maintain a phone relationship as a consultant.

  12. Hoping JDF goes to Reading after the All Star game. Bring up Zied from Lakewood to fill his spot. I think De Fratus would do a nice job setting up for Schwimer if not being the closer himself.

  13. Villar is really smoking the ball right now. He just hit his first homer. a 2-run shot after a James double. The announcer was pretty funny bc he stated that it was his first HR in this country.
