A quick recap with some notes at the end:
Friday–Lehigh Valley ended their 4 game set with Pawtucket early, as their game was suspended after two innings with no score. Not much to report other then the rehab appearance by JC Romero, in which he pitched a scoreless first inning, striking out two. This game will be picked up in the bottom of the 2nd on June 29.
Saturday-A huge night for John Mayberry, Jr. going 3-3 with 3 doubles, 3 runs and 2 RBI’s, in the 8-1 ‘Pigs trouncing of division leading SYracuse in the first of the four game set in Allentown. A quick start for Lehigh Valley with a three run first inning which included an RBI double by John Mayberry. After a solo homer by Pete Orr cut the ‘Pigs lead to 3-1, another double by Mayberry followed by an RBI single by Cody Ransom gave Lehigh Valley their three run cushion back. Lehigh Valley added two more in the 5th (Mayberry Rbi double, Ransom sac fly) and two in the 7th (Tracy RBI single) to close out the scoring. Andrew Carpenter got the start for the ‘Pigs, and after a very rocky first outing, seemed to settle in against the Chiefs. He went 6 strong innings, giving up just a run on 2 hits. He walked 3 and struck out 3, throwing 89 pitches, 49 for strikes. Joining Mayberry with a big night at the plate was DeWayne Wise who had 2 hits and 2 RBI’s.
Sunday–The bats went dry in the 3-1 loss to Syracuse on Sunday, with Lehigh Valley able to push through their lone run on a Chris Duffy RBI single in the 5th. Syracuse came back with a three run sixth off of ‘Pigs starter Brian Mazone for the final 3-1 margin. Mazone went 6 innings, giving up 3 runs on 6 hits. He didnt walk a batter and struck out 7. Duffy and Cody Ransom had 2 hits apiece for Lehigh Valley.
Notes: –After three rocky outings, Mike Zagurski struck out the side after coming in to relieve Andrew Carpenter with the bases loaded in Saturday nights game.
—John Mayberry, Jr. has begun seeing some time in CF, a new position for him. I wouldnt read much into it, other than simply increasing his versatility.
–Look for JC Romero to work out of the Lehigh Valley pen both Monday and Tuesday, with re-activation next weekend if everything goes smoothly.
—Dice K will be rehabbing at Coca COla Park on Wednesday evening, pitching for Pawtucket.
–Probable Starters: Monday: Vogelsong, Tuesday: Bump, Wednesday: Savery
